    Quoting  :

I believe as an American people we are a strong sort that will overcome the odds stacked against us, despite the many flaws we as citizens have. This country is still relatively young, but in a short amount of time we have left an indelible impression on other nations - some think it inspirational, and others completely despise us. In every case, we are viewed to be a strong people, that even with through the worst circumstances we come together and fight for each other; to that, we are the best who we can be.

    Quoting FMAOPLS:
I've seen a lot of posts on this subject tonight, both here and on other social media.

But as much as we are horrified by today's events - one over-riding thought has stuck with me. In North America, we see these incidents as "outside our normal existence". In other parts of the world, these types of events are a daily occurrence.

For that, we can all be thankful.
Yes, I think that's the most shocking - that things like this don't happen here. Even after 9/11, we've become desensitized by the violence happening in other countries, and in turn, hypocritical at the same time.

I am glad and thankful for the security measures, and what the brave men and women of our armed forces are doing every day to keep us safe. Ironically, as Americans, we seem to be doing good job of inducing violence amongst ourselves.
