"You Don't Know Your History"

Yeah I've been hearing that, and reading that, and wondering, if our public officials have been misstating things to make it possible for those who are not good history students to be misinformed.

So I went looking for the REASON the Confederate states got together. The REASON they wanted to secede. just as America made her DECLARATION before. It was easy to find

Confederate States of America - Declaration of the Immediate Causes Which Induce and Justify the Secession of South Carolina from the Federal Union

Within three sentences it tells you WHO the document represents...the opinions and wishes of the other SLAVEHOLDING States

Then after some time explaining authority the first declaration had thereby laying their opinion that they had the same right as the 1773 group they begin to list their complaints:

COMPLAINT 1 You said if we had slaves who ran away you had to give them back!
The Constitution of the United States, in its fourth Article, provides as follows: "No person held to service or labor in one State, under the laws thereof, escaping into another, shall, in consequence of any law or regulation therein, be discharged from such service or labor, but shall be delivered up, on claim of the party to whom such service or labor may be due."

and if you hadn't said that we wouldn't have joined your little country!!!

This stipulation was so material to the compact, that without it that compact would not have been made. The greater number of the contracting parties held slaves

I was going to continue but it sickens me to read, people trying to convince themselves something other, than that the STATES RIGHTS that were WANTED was to keep HUMAN BEINGS AS THEIR SLAVES.

IT WAS WRONG and WE KNOW IT THAT'S WHY WE WOULDN'T DREAM OF DOING IT NOW. AND people ran around with that confederate flag TERRORIZING people so that they 1) wouldn't escape, 2) wouldn't help people escape, 3) wouldn't be able to survive once the law of freedom went into effect.

I'm sure the south can think of something ELSE to be proud of. Supposedly you have good manners.

We could be fucking now.

The “states rights” argument is technically accurate. But (a very big but) it is effectively a red herring to throw people off of the underlying reason for the “civil” war – slavery. The southern states economy depended on cheap labor (slaves) and slavery was becoming less popular in other states. The southern states wanted the ‘right’ to continue with the slave labor and to secede.

History lesson over. I have a taste for chicken and waffles right about now.

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

I appreciate hearing from people who are interested in making this place good for us all. The original conversation began here: http://FriendFinder-x.com=dating.polyamorydate.com

I responded, and then when I wanted to respond again I thought better of it and wrote my own blog. But soon I had to respond to that blog again.

It's nice to know the flag may come off of the government, but maybe we should all take some courses in tolerance as part of our high school courses.

We could be fucking now.
