Are we, as members of the LGBT Community, Bigots Too?

A Transgender person has many roadblocks placed in front of them, and that includes Transsexuals too! Some is by choice, some are forced on us, and they all require education on both sides of the equation. Both will fall away over time.
In the Dark Ages of Seattle. Back during the Sixties and Seventies and even much before, Seattle’s Gay community found a home, you might say, in the Pioneer Square Area. It was run down and sort of out of flavor with the city and citizens.
Back then, If you wanted a ; you went to China Town. Drugs; you went to Pike Street. And If you were a homosexual you went to the square. To Bars and Taverns like Peters Inn (also a watering hole for the cops) The Double Header, The MaCombo, Bogart’s, The Bombay Bicycle Shop, or The South End Steam Baths and many others. All from the outside looked normal places to drink and have fun. The police left most people alone unless they insisted on acting like flames, or got out of hand, then it was not surprising to get thumped on.
Over time things slowly changed. The “Homosexual” bars slowly closed or moved to Capitol Hill. Only those few at first opened with little fanfare of even signage. You need to know where they were as a customer. The Community became more “OUT”. Slowly, the Homosexual Community was gaining some political lessons and favor. Many, “coming out of the closet” to become Leaders got more than their fair share of lumps. Physical, mental and professional. All the while groups formed to fight the Devil “Homosexuality” like The Moral Majority tried to gain populace. And because of the newly found political savvy the Homosexual community learned from mistakes in Oregon and California. They reworked the Political action group names that the Moral Majority founded in Oregon and using the same names here in Washington preventing the Moral Majority from using them. They screamed FOUL to avail in the courts and in the public options. Religious Leaders jumped on the bandwagon against the debauchery of Homosexuality.

It is hard to fathom the indifference the Community suffered. Some, even from the hands of our own community. Over the centuries Homosexuality has been around forever. It is even mentioned in the Bible. In the really old days, you became an actor so you could dress as a woman. Back then it was totally unheard of for a woman to act on stage. And this type of discrimination continued for years and to a point still does. But that is another story.

We have stories of J. Edgar Hoover working hard to defeat the immoral attitude of Homosexuality and yet today, stories there are stories of him wearing dresses and about his own private affairs. Of Actors who wear skirts at home. Men living with men, Women with other women, each being called a Cousin, Nephew, a relative of sorts and never as their lover or partner.
When I was growing up I can remember my mother saying one should never dance that way unless you were married to them. A unheard of crime occurs, and my parents always said they were Homosexuals that did it because only they could be that vicious. Attitudes changed as we learned more.
So what does this have to do with our own community being Bigoted? Back then everyone in the GLBT community was labeled Homosexuals. It made no difference if you were male or female. It did not matter if you were Gay or Lesbian, a Transsexual, Transgender, Transvestite, A Drag Queen, Cross Dresser or whatever! We were still only a member of two groups; One called “Gay”, and the other called “Lesbian” And we all were still called Homosexuals or Faggots, Queers, Flames, Dykes, Closet Queens, He-She’s, and Yes, even She-He’s.

At this point of time, as before, inside or own little community, If you were Transsexual you did not belong to the Gay group and you had no place as a Lesbian either. Same went for the rest; be it Transgender, Transvestite, Cross Dresser, He-She’s. Only Drag queens and She-He’s were accepted as either Gay or Lesbian.
Then the term came about: “Gay, Lesbian, Bi-Sexual, Transsexual” or GLBTS for short. Terms such as Transvestite, He-She, She-He, Faggot, Queer, Gender-bender, Fag and others have fallen to as derogatory slurs. And yet we as a Community still allow them to be used! And the worst thing is it is ourselves saying them. They are just like Blacks, or Negros and other such words (Now to be politically corrected to African-American) when they use the “N” word in both Public and Private conversations.

We in the TRANS Category are slowly being accepted. Yet, it will take years of education by both sides to get acceptance.

Now you ask what all this has to do with my title: Are we, as members of the LGBT Community. Bigots Too? My answer to the question is Yes!
I guess the hardest thing for me on this site is to get people to understand me. While I am a man dressing as a woman (from underwear to make-up and hair) I still consider myself as straight and not gay or as a man on man. Believe it or not! I am not attracted to men when I am dressed as a man. I see myself as a real woman. And I want to do what a woman would do with a man and not as a man in a dress.
If you decide to make a comment. And I honesty do wish to see them. Please, PLEASE be courteous with it or to anyone else

Life is short and I like who I am!
