Calling all Bloggers
Calling all Bloggers I was having dinner over at a friend’s place; you go through all the usual topics. Then it came time to start talking about me, and what’s going on in my life. After you run through all the regular mundane things, parents, , etc., I started talking about my blogging here on FriendFinder-x, and while trying to describe the experience, his wife made a statement that made me think. What I really started thinking about was, are we really bloggers? It’s not a rhetorical question, but in the traditional sense of the word are we bloggers? Modern blogging grew out of the old UseNet, CompuServe, BBS (Bulletin Board Systems). Originally blogs were referred to as weblogs (it later got shortened to blog), because they were basically online diaries. A guy by the name of Justin Hall, who started blogging in 1994 is generally recognized as one of the earliest bloggers. Initially his blog kind of provided an early tour of the web, but eventually it became focus on his personal life, in intimate detail, much like a diary. Very few of the blogs here, are written like diaries. Sure there are a few can could reasonably make that claim but most don’t. So again are most of us truly bloggers? What my friend’s wife said to me is; it sounds like pen pals. I thought about it overnight, and looked into what a pen pal is. Here is a description that I found. “A pen pal relationship is often used to practice reading and writing in a foreign language, to improve literacy, to learn more about other countries and life-styles, and to make friendships. As with any friendships in life, some people remain pen pals for only a short time, while others continue to exchange letters and presents for life. Some pen pals eventually arrange to meet face to face; sometimes leading to serious relationships, or even marriage.” Are most of us really pen pals? Our language is sex; the literacy we are trying to improve on is sex? We certainly learn about other countries and life-styles; I learned that in the southern states a differential is made between Afro-Caribbean and Black as a result of one of my posts. Some blog only for a short period of time, while others for much longer. We definitely arrange face to face meetings, serious relationships do develop out of this, and some have even formed life commitments. We all came to this site looking for a type of companionship (friendship if you will), but a select group of us end up here, corresponding like pen pals. A high five to "E". I basically agree. I am not a "purist" in a blog sense. This Is as close to a blog as I think I will ever get

perhaps your friends wife romanticizes about your blogging. A penpal cares about you & your life, makes sure to comment & reply. Blogs allow people to read & not reply. The romantic idea is sweeter than reality. All female and born this way ~!

I don't know if I'd call it "pen pals". I never did enjoy writing letters or having pen pals myself. You bring up a good point though that this site will never reach it's potential as a weblog platform unless we can share links and information from other sites. If they want to continue to push blogging here and have it be more than just "pen pals",they will need to ease up on some of those restrictions. You can have open talk about sexuality while censoring any outside information.

I didn't know that the definition of blogger was so defined. And I definitely don't consider what I do to be pen-pals. Rainbowsox hit the nail on the head. I'm here to communicate, and have discussions with other intelligent people. I like to think of many of those with whom I regularly interact, and share our opinions, thoughts, dreams, fears and wishes, to be evolving towards friendly relationships. Whatever it's called - it's just semantics. The emotions, exchange of ideas, connections and interaction are far more important than whatever someone chooses to call it. Check out my profile or and become a "watcher" of my blog FMAOPLS,to learn more about me, and for intelligent, lively, smartassy and fun discussion, with a little irreverence thrown in. "Like" or comment on my photos, and I promise I'll add more. Thanks.

You made me think. Learned today about a new life-style or classification, whatever is. Starting to see this site blogs like a hybrid version of pen pals and blogging. If our blogging is serving dual purpose, can we say that our Blogs are Bi or Bi-purpose?

I agree with you here. I think as you continue to blog you gain friendship all over the world in a form of a pen pal. Would you ever meet your pen pal from here you might. I have seen stories written about folks meeting up from blog world and still writing to each other. Nothing sexual just keeping in contact with them. hugs V Become a blog watcher sweet_vm

I guess we will define our FriendFinder-x blog experience as a blogging or Pen Pals situation based on how we interact with blogs and bloggers. Find pleasure in giving pleasure
