Leaving the Coast

Well….I am finally getting back out on the open road again. I waited till I left Corpus to start writing about my adventures….ordeals ….I encountered.

Just getting out of town was….well….I hope I don't have this much trouble again!

I got everything all loaded and unhooked ready to roll, when my car won't start…..WTF?? It was working just fine the night before…GRRRR…So the maintence guys help me roll it out of the way to pull the RV out and hook it up to the RV. I take it across town to a friends house. I called to tell him I was having car trouble…he said bring it over he would look at it.
So I show up and WE….yes WE proceed to remove the starter….take it to Auto Zone have it checked out…it's fine. So we check the battery…it's low and MY stupid car has safety features when the battery is low….like you can't shift gears or remove the key from the ignition. So the rear door is closed, locked….the battery is in the back of the car….we have to climb in from the front to get to the battery to put a trickle charger on it and replace to starter.
Some 2 hrs later the car has enough of a charge it starts…YEAH!! BUT don't get too excited….I pull the car into his garage and we put the trifle charger on overnight.
The next morning….charged battery, working starter….but still the car won't start

So back to Auto Zone for a relay…..switch it out and YEAH!!!! the car starts. Get it hooked up and headed out. But the weather was dreadful foggy damp low visibility …SO I did something I knew was a iffy move I left the running lights on ..on the car.
YES….I know NOT a wise move but the choices of getting rear ended or dead battery.
I chose the dead battery and when I got to Galveston for my 3 day pit stop…YOU guessed it dead battery.

And worse part the car got stuck in the middle of the turn around when I went to unhook the car….which was a major pain in the ass…..I ended up unhooking the ball hitch from RV…..NOT the trailer hitch from the car. I hook up the trickle charger for a couple hrs and am able to move the car …just as a fresh cold front is blowing in.

TOO MUCH FUN!!

Next morning I get a new battery…..So maybe I won't have any more car troubles for a while…..or at least till I get to my next stop.

But wait tomorrow I have to hook up the car, without help…OH well that's tomorrow no need to worry about it today. I have an couple of ideas how I can manage it.

After all I did get me some spotter balls and bungee cords….I THINK I CAN, I THINK I CAN, I THINK I CAN….TooT-TooT!!

It is funny how people will push a car battery and thinking. Keep the receipt. You never know when it goes bad. They don't make them like they used to.
So, You are heading out to the cooler country. Enjoy. .
