this is not the future promised.
this is not the future promised. this is not the future promised. This is time of the future of which I was told yet to the promises given a mirror does not hold we believed we would do things better and right not succumb to the ills which did other generations blight yet the artistic suburbs from which such hope grew our mercantile gentrification of those places slew we forced up the rent and forced them out the poor and young have no place to shout the clubs and bars where live music played each in turn has been condemned and sprayed the places and bars where writers gathered to discuss the walls knocked down and roofs left to rust in every creative sphere we ask how much will it earn not what from this creativity can our society learn our society has no time or space for those who dream in every field of endeavour those dreamers we demean and yet without time for reflection and allowing creativity to flower our world becomes more typecast and dumber by the hour who knows from where the next Mozart or Einstein will appear can be sure in knowing will not be one forced to draw beer forced to perform menial jobs to survive a creative life for they will have no time to focus and overcome creative strife no time to reflect and challenge the here and now look forward or sideways not back and creatively plough new lines of thought or principles of genius as yet unknown without the space in which to develop inspiration has flown instead we set them all to menial tasks to their spirit break create a dis-spirited nightmare world from which we cannot wake. That is very grim and negative. I understand that sentiment. I do hope some pockets of the globe have learnt that the arts are noble endeavors. Places where their governments don't think working like a slave to corporations is necessary to be a good citizen. Is there not that saying that on your death bed no one wishes they worked more. No, they wish they spent more time with their family or pursuing a creative dream. Thank you Mulleen for articulating disenchantment so eloquently. Now everything needs to have a path, a way forward, to a success based on things, not experience or feelings. I am not sure if I do articulate it as eloquently as you read it, I suspect you overlay your own thoughts to enrich my prose. Thanks for the comment, and my regrets this post came across so grim and negative. Thoughts in sensual pleasure to erotic writing writ. there was an implication, by the teachers now long past, work hard, play fair, and get a job for life - for that was a world that then existed, though even as they spoke it was swift receding. the idea land and house would be affordable, that corporations and companies would stand by employees, instead.....a swerve to greater inequality through less sharing in the profits of the productivity gains for workers, has resulted in a growing divide, between those with, and and those with less and vulnerable to slide deeper into debt. anyhow.....your right......the verbal assurances of a better world were not worth the paper they were written on, and as, the teachers and leaders of society were not soothsayers of any great note should have been taken as the unlikely prophecies of those who knew not what may occur....
