What are your favorite movies?

“What's your favorite scary movie?” Scream

Horror… a simplistic answer albeit an honest one; would it be plausible to choose the stars from the sky, one book in a library, or even a moment in a lifetime? Perhaps tis only greed but I choose the sky, there is a reason Amazon exist, and much like Rapunzel in Tangled, I ask the question ”When Will My Life Begin”.

Anyway horror is my favorite genre; boys, girls, and terrifying monsters but is not man the greatest monster of them all in this era. I am but a hopeless romantic but everything; vampires to werewolves, zombies to beasts have been turned into little more than… hmm somewhat like me, little boys crying out for pretty girls to love them. Perhaps this somewhat explains my fondest for the single solitary villains e.g. Captivity, Summer’s Moon, Walled In, etc. However I have yet to turn my back on zombies, along with any horrific tale that does involve an honest love story between a boy and a girl.

With horror, some of the best have twist endings, and while I am quite twisted, my favorite plotline is a would-be love story. Let me reiterate would-be because I have never been one for the blasé love story but a girl pretending to be in love, a girl both falling and flying, or of truly falling in love with the brigand, the monster… don’t girls clandestinely seek out the villain?

The usual tripe mistaken for a love story teaches that the good boy gets the girl; I suppose that’s why we call it fiction. If anything I prefer the love story between the angel and the boy with good intentions, that’s as close to reality as one can make it, if not choose to live. The Hunger Games Series, Divergent, soon Fifty Shades of Grey all men with good hearts and young women who find themselves becoming… more, that’s what it always is with me, I want an angel but how can I love an angel? If it’s any consolation I can’t love a either… I own quite the plethora of porn, but how many do I see, and how many do I watch; that is the question.

Speaking of seeing or indeed rather not, I detest movies with the plot of mistaken identity with the exception of I Know Who Killed Me. There are also these movies that somehow feed us the superstition that for example the student body will one day stand with those they once rejected.

A walking contradiction to be sure with my repugnance of this reality and so I seek fiction and then criticize when fiction is nowhere near realistic enough. Perchance I’m searching for something to believe in according to my own philosophies or in relation to my own experiences which explains my dislike for full blown comedies. Now I understand I’m not one to bring about thoughts of “Curiouser and curiouser!” but I’m not one for others documentaries such as Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, One Direction and the like but I have watched others such as Defiance, Schindler’s List etc. While I have nothing against 3-D the concept is getting rather pedestrian; it is almost used as an excuse for bad storytelling though the failures are few and far between.

Again it is quite possible to give a detailed reference of my favorite movies but where would it end and what have I forgotten. There are moments, I believe, glimpses of myself and while these too are far too numerous I will name a few,

In most recent memory my favorite movie isn’t even a movie, though its creation has been noted and that movie would be “The Last of Us”. If I could have love I would want an ending in tune with Silver Linings Playbook. I want a girl that would look not just at my art but at me like Emma Roberts did with Freddie Highmore in The Art of Getting By.

How about a long drawn out love affair like the movie 28 Hotel Rooms would I do that with one woman or several; I can’t be too sure. I would like to theorize that I would be a bit more intelligent than Philip in Total Romance: Initiation. Last but not least, as much as I enjoy Hentai, there aren’t a myriad of endings I would like to play out.

I've never enjoyed thrillers, chillers, horror or scary movies. Just don't enjoy that.

But I do love Sci-fi, anything by Disney or Miyazaki, older comedies (before the days when mean spirited and juvenile frat boy 'humor' began dominating the genre) and some of the more epic adventure films.
