Cool pics once again

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

ok, I saw the first pic and thot ..wow, I love this one. Then I saw the next one and I loved it more, loved that little tiny vine wrapping itself around the stem to the top. And then, as I saw each pic that followed, I fell in love with them all. You have such a great eye for taking pics. Composition is fantastic, etc.

This preserve is very close to the city. We worry a lot that the University will develop it. Several properties were deeded to them in perpetuity as open space and parkland, and they buy a legislator to nullify the deed. The Old Colony Orchard went that way, and the Lee Baker Farm. They've torn down all the magnificent old brick dormitories at the Asylum and put up glass and concrete abominations. It breaks my heart to see our history vanish for developer greed.

I guess it beats walking on a treadmill.

But then you have some pretty good company along too.
I have the best of company. And I hate treadmills. i'd rather wade through freezing slush.

Yep! They don't very often pose for me but I got several shots of this guy. He was busy, though!

The desert's pretty damn cool too. I really liked Arizona and New Mexico. The north woods is home though!

Great photos. I love the one of the bird and the squirrel.
I was lucky to get that chipmunk. They never hold still for very long.

I had a pet grey squirrel once. Some loggers cut down a tree and he was in a nest. One of the guys gave him to me so I raised him in a spare room. There's a reason why squirrelly means what it does- he was nuts! I fed him milk and cream of wheat from a little bottle. As soon as he was weaned and eating nuts and bark I turned him loose in a local park. He ran up an oak and never looked back once. I kind of missed the little prick, but I knew all along I was gonna set him free as soon as he was old enough.

It's a wonderful place, and only a few miles from downtown.

Do you feel sometimes like nature is putting on a private show just for you? Beautiful.

There is a difference between a good BJ and a bad BJ.

It is beautiful. The place was a farm colony for the Kalamazoo Asylum for the Insane and had a village of Victorian dormitories and farm buildings, and tunnels linking some of the buildings. All that is gone now. A mix of the two would be nice, but Americans don't do much of anything to preserve their history.

Not exactly private, but I know what you mean- not everyone looks, or sees the same things. E.O. Wilson had vision in only one eye but he saw things most of us miss and understood nature in a way few of us could. It's kind of like that. It's there for everyone to love but some folks just can't see. In that sense I feel kind of special

Well, he's only wearing a fur coat...
I liked my pet squirrel but I didn't lose sight of the fact that he was wild and meant to be wild. If I needed a reminder I got it when i set him free and he never gave me a second glance- he headed for the trees.

Your photos, always good, are now even better! I very much like the photo you've used for your messages post. A professional could not do better!

Spunky, your praise always leaves me feeling warm and fuzzy. I'm something of an Anglophile by nature and habit and you aren't doing anything to fuck that up. I don't know much about the workings of my camera yet but I flatter myself that I know a good thing when I see it. You're a very good thing. Thanks.

Lakes are magical, there is a special energy there, for sure. Am a Cartesian mind and all but I say this because during my pregnancies, towards the last week, every time, I'd ask my husband to come with me to Walden Pond, MA, he'd sit on a log while I walked around the edge of the lake, I physically needed it, especially under a full moon.

Gracie has a visceral, genetic love for water. She runs up and down the creek and along the shore of the lake, skimming the water with her mouth and splashing wildly. She goes a little bit batshit when near water. The first time we took her to Lake Michigan she was beside herself with joy.
