A lot of what I see in the forest reminds me of impressionist paintings, the splashes and dabs of color. That one was very intricate looking.

There are frogs lining the shore of that pond and they do a dance when Gracie runs by, jumping into the water just ahead of her. They look like a froggy chorus line. This is her favorite trail into the preserve because there's a lot of water.

This is temperate rain forest too, but it got timbered out and denuded early on. We had huge trees here too when Pere Marquette and the Sieur de LaSalle first came here. There are still a few groves of old growth forest left. Those places are magical.

I'm partial to green too, and to blue. We live in a very green and wet part of the country. I have a set of photos from a year ago spring when we went hiking in the rain after a dry spell. You could almost hear the forest drinking, quenching its thirst, and see it plumping up. The woods were never more palpably alive than on that day.

 Yes they are. We found a fairy ring a few days ago in the pine forest. It's a ring of mushrooms that grow out from a central fungus. The mushrooms we see aboveground are the flower or fruit of a larger organism that lives under the surface. The ring grows outward from the axis as it depletes nutrients and makes a circle of ever increasing diameter.That was pretty exciting.
