Cubs win!

These are the saddest of possible words:

"Tinker to Evers to Chance."

Trio of bear cubs, and fleeter than birds,

Tinker and Evers and Chance.

Ruthlessly pricking our gonfalon bubble,

Making a Giant hit into a double—

Words that are heavy with nothing but trouble:

"Tinker to Evers to Chance."

Franklin P. Adams, 12 July 1910

Holy cow! Cubs win! Cubs win! Cubs win!

There is joy in Mudville tonight, Annette! (Another poem to google.)

I'm a Chicago White Sox fan, the South Siders. The Cubs are the North side team. It would have been disloyal to cheer for anyone else. This was the curse of the Cubbies, that they had not won in a hundred eight years. There is a serious crosstown rivalry, but when it came down to the World Series, I got emotional about it. I once saw a sign in Wrigley Field, where the Cubs play: "Keep Chicago beautiful- shoot a Sox fan!" But all that melted away this year when the Cubs finally broke the curse! Cubs win! There will be peace and brotherhood in the Windy City this day!

There you go all politically correct on me! Don't you people know we here are the center of the universe?

At the time that name for the championship was coined, we were at the height of our hubris as the savior of western civilization....or so it appeared until recently. Who knew we would get even more insufferable? Nobody else was playing much baseball then, benighted souls that they are. So it was actually a pretty accurate term at the time. And by God, we hang on to our traditions here, outdated and exclusive though they may be. However, there is still some vestige of truth in the name of the championship series, since so many players come from other countries where the citizens have discovered the glory that is baseball. America is polyglot and magnificent, and baseball here is proof of that. We get a chance to reaffirm that in five days.

Game 7 was one of the best I have ever saw for a game that had everything on the line. Go Cubs, great job. Now go fine a goat and bring him to the stadium

It was a fantastic game. Ten innings of game seven between two never say die teams. Hats off to the Indians! The only shame of this game is that someone had to lose. What a marvelous series, and a thrilling final game!

Former Southsider here. I would LOVE to soon have a rematch of the 1906 Series. The Cubs were favored in that one, and then won in 07 and 08.

Bonjour Kzoopair
Je ne comprend absolument rien au Base Ball, la seule fois où j'ai vu un match je me suis endormi
Mais je comprends le plaisir de voir son équipe gagner , je me souviendrais toujours de la France gagnant " Le mondial de Foot " en 1998

Hello Kzoopair
I absolutely understand anything at Ball Base, the only time I saw a game I fell asleep
But I understand the pleasure of seeing his team win, I always remember the France win "World Soccer" in 1998

Winning the World Series is greater than the World Cup, World War Two and Armageddon all rolled into one. Who cares if we all burn? The Cubbies have won the World Series!!!

Gagner la Série mondiale est supérieure à la Coupe du Monde, la Seconde Guerre mondiale et Armageddon tout en un. Qui se soucie si nous brûlons? Les Cubbies ont remporté la Série mondiale!!!

I don't often watch baseball. but I watched this.

I have to say, to me it wouldn't have mattered which team won....they both were breaking a curse.

I sat and watched the faces. oh, what a treat.

You cannot conceive the many without the one.

That was an exceptionally long wait. The White Sox went from 1919 to 1959 between Series appearances- and key members were banned for life for throwing the 1919 series.

The curse was a big deal in baseball and loomed large in Chicago. Even White Sox fans were sympathetic.

Wasn't it though? I was up and then down and up again! None of the other games felt very competitive, but game seven made up for it. Until game five the Cubs looked flat, but then their bats came alive and didn't sit down again.

Where we live in Michigan it's a tossup if you're a Chicago or a Detroit fan- we're exactly halfway between the two. My old man raised me a White Sox fan, so the Cubbies' drought was legend.

1908 was the year of the Tunguska meteor in Siberia, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid were said to have been killed in Bolivia, and Edward R. Murrow was born. It was a long time ago!

You're right- the Cubs' jubilation was infectious.

I hope not! Cubs fans were insufferable enough during the previous drought!

Harry Caray was the hoarse and corny announcer for first the White Sox and then the Cubs. He led the fans in singing "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" during the seventh inning and his most famous exclamation was "Holy Cow!" He's gone now, but he'd have yelled himself speechless over this game. It was hotly contested and if there's a better sporting entertainment I sure as hell don't know what it would be.

Harry Caray was already an announcing legend by when the Busch family ran him away from the St. Louis Cardinals (for hitting on the wife of one of the Busch guys??)

Harry continued his loyalty to Budweiser on resettling in Chicago. Ever attend a Wednesday day game when he was broadcasting from the centerfield bleachers at Old Comiskey? With a cooler of Buds.

But wow, that game 7 had everything.

Harry was a piece of work all right. Remember Jimmy Piersall? What a pair they were in the broadcast booth! I used to watch the Sox on WSNS back in the seventies.

Game seven was a classic and a thriller!)
