Interjectuos Graffiti

I'm in mish-mash mode. There are maps available in the lobby if you get lost.

I spent a good amount of time reading blogs this afternoon. It continues to blow my mind how many different kinds of people are on this site. The bigger mind-fuque is how many really good writers there are out there -- er, rather, in here. There's also $hit-tons of terrible writers that should just stick to posting crotch shots or something.

Hallway... left-turn: I was thinking about the word "wow". First known use was 1513! It's an interjection - anyone remember School House Rock? The song about interjections? "High emotion, hallelujah, hallelujah..." The chick at the end was a big turn-on for me at age 6-8. Gotta love those low self-esteem cheerleaders.

With little to no modification, got to thinking about the word "ow" -- as in, short for "ouch".

How is it that even toddlers that can't spell their own names instinctively use this word? First known use in 1865. After "wow"? Hmmmmmmm....

Anyway. I originally wanted to write a blogpost about humor. One of my "Fill-In the Blank Friday" posts was to the effect of "I think ___________ is hilarious." It's located here if you wanna play along or see what some folks thought: FillIn the Blank Friday

In thinking about it, I pondered the interjection "ha". First known use in the early 12th Century. Preceding "wow" by hundreds of years, and "ow" by over twice that.

Then I started looking at the smileys on this site. A handful for laughing, laughing out loud, and rolling on the floor laughing -- words that have been reduced to acronyms these days. Abbreviations. You know the ones.

Do you think "LOL" will become a word in the real sense? I mean... years from now will someone tell a funny joke and the listener literally say ( not text or email ) "lol" - rhymes with "doll" or if I stretch it " dole " . I don't think so... "ha" comes out so much easier and expresses the real feeling of humor. Donjathink?

Somehow takes me back to "ow". Dunno why. Don't you think that the first person who cut himself on accident said "ow"? I mean even before 1865? What did they say in those early days when they harmed themselves? Curious.

I think I mentioned before, in one of my "20 Random Things" that etymology is one of the most interesting things I know. mmmmmmmm.... here: 20 More Random Full MoonStyle

Another blogger got me interested in the origination of calendars. I'm already a specialist in timepieces. Stretching it out and seeing the bits over longer periods is an interesting pursuit for now. Would you say "wow" or "ha"?

I find the funniest things are rooted in the truth. I only know three truths --

gravity

time

and math

I find hilariousness in each of those categories. I'll separate them out in later posts. This is like 500 words already, so plenty for now. If you have read this far, I'm truly pleased.
