Cams - to the uninitiated
Cams - to the uninitiated A few years ago the British Army ran a TV ad about a foot patrol in a random part of equatorial Africa. The locals are pretty hostile, shouting and gesticulating at them. Their body language softens and the hostility melts away when the soldiers take their sun glasses off and the civilians can see the whites of their eyes. In the end, when the soldiers have demonstrated their humanity by being open, the reaction to them is a lot warmer. People like to see faces properly, not just a bit, all of it - it matters! When I and other people cam, occasionally people say 'you don't smile much'. Damn right - I don't smile at ghosts. If it's not cam to cam I can't see you or hear you my body language is going to reflect that. My expression is going to be pretty neutral, I'm not going to be pleased to see you, if I can't see you - and pictures aren't going to prompt the same reaction. Please bear this in mind - if you turn your cam on, smile, wave and blow a kiss then you'll get a lot of love back. If you don't, well . . . |
