Trump's cheap shot...

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley and the always entertaining White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer have made interesting statements recently on the Assad/Syria situation.

In Ankara Turkey on March 30, Tillerson said the "longer-term status of president Assad" “will be decided by the Syrian people.” On the same day, in New York, Haley stated “our priority is no longer to sit there and focus on getting Assad out.”

The next day Sean Spicer said, “Well, I think with respect to Assad, there is a political reality that we have to accept in terms of where we are right now.”

What more encouraging words does Assad need to feel he can get back to doing what he wants, the full scale destruction of all those in country, who oppose him and his family, as the rulers of Syria.

Trump's recent statement...

“Today’s chemical attack in Syria against innocent people, including women and , is reprehensible and cannot be ignored by the civilized world,” Mr. Trump said in the statement released by the White House. “These heinous actions by the Bashar al-Assad regime are a consequence of the past administration’s weakness and irresolution.”

“President Obama said in 2012 that he would establish a ‘red line’ against the use of chemical weapons and then did nothing,” Mr. Trump continued, referring to Mr. Obama’s first direct threat of force. “The United States stands with our allies across the globe to condemn this intolerable attack.”

But if that wasn't enough there is also the following tweets from before Trump won the electoral college....

June 15, 2013: We should stay the hell out of Syria, the "rebels" are just as bad as the current regime. WHAT WILL WE GET FOR OUR LIVES AND $ BILLIONS?ZERO

August 29, 2013: @walaa_3ssaf No, dopey, I would not go into Syria, but if I did it would be by surprise and not blurted all over the media like fools.

August 29, 2013: What will we get for bombing Syria besides more debt and a possible long term conflict? Obama needs Congressional approval.

September 1, 2013: President Obama's weakness and indecision may have saved us from doing a horrible and very costly (in more ways than money) attack on Syria!

September 2, 2013: If the U.S. attacks Syria and hits the wrong targets, killing civilians, there will be worldwide hell to pay. Stay away and fix broken U.S.

September 3, 2013: What I am saying is stay out of Syria.

September 5, 2013: The only reason President Obama wants to attack Syria is to save face over his very dumb RED LINE statement. Do NOT attack Syria, fix U.S.A.

September 5, 2013: AGAIN, TO OUR VERY FOOLISH LEADER, DO NOT ATTACK SYRIA - IF YOU DO MANY VERY BAD THINGS WILL HAPPEN & FROM THAT FIGHT THE U.S. GETS NOTHING!

Donald J. Trump ✔ @realDonaldTrump
If Syria was forced to use Obamacare they would self-destruct without a shot being fired. Obama should sell them that idea!
6:49 PM - 6 Sep 2013

September 7, 2013: President Obama, do not attack Syria. There is no upside and tremendous downside. Save your "powder" for another (and more important) day!

September 9, 2013: Don't attack Syria - an attack that will bring nothing but trouble for the U.S. Focus on making our country strong and great again!

Donald J. Trump ✔ @realDonaldTrump
This new Russian strategy guarantees victory for the Syrian government-and makes Obama and U.S. look hopelessly bad. President in trouble!
7:25 PM - 10 Sep 2013

As I remember Obama sent the issue over to congress and of course that meant they didn't want to take the responsibility of saying yes but Kerry worked out a deal with the Russians who just happen to be allies of Assad's and have had bases in Syria for many years. Syria's chemical weapons were supposed to have been destroyed or otherwise disposed of. But of course even if they did do away with all of them they still had the means to manufacture more.

I think the Trump administration letting Assad know that he wasn't going to be bothered by the United States was more than enough to encourage him to go ahead and start using the chemical weapons again. Given Trump's loving relationship with Putin I'm sure that nothing will be done about Assad during his administration. After all Assad is just another authoritarian regime.

So do you think Trump's cheap shot at Obama was justifiable.

I can understand why Obama said chemical weapons were a red line and I can understand why he didn't follow through - do American forces really want to invade a country with no oil?
Trump, hopefully, is slowly and very slowly beginning to realise that running a country is not the same as running a business.

tickles4us replies on 4/7/2017 9:58 am:
Oh come on now Spunky not all things the U.S. does are based on oil. Sometimes it's ideology or treaty agreements or even putting a stop to a growing "evil" power. I think it is beginning to sink in though I still don't think he's fit for the job just the same.

Well it seems since you posted Trump has decided to act. But it seems he decided not to make it a surprise as he touted, unless you call giving hours of warning, surprise. But I can't complain about that as it was better to warn the Russians and not have Russian casualties or any other casualties and settle for destroying the physical assets even if it meant the planes and equipment got moved before hand. It does send a message, though it isn't all good. Now we have the issue of America being seen as ignoring Nato and international laws in responding in a reactionary manner to an incident that hasn't been proven to be what it appears. Let alone the issue of not going to congress first as required by the laws of the United States. But I have to say Assad was very deserving though I would rather see something more direct at him, but of course that violates international law unless it is for instance a general area bombing that happens to kill him but even that under the present circumstances would likely be unlawful as we aren't in a war against Syria. A can of worms for President Trump to feast on. I bet he worked out the details with Putin.

I'm not even concerned about his comment being justifiable or not. This is ignorant. hugs V

Trump has a very ignorant reactionary attitude towards the events in the world.

POTUS neglected to point out that Assad had not used chemical weapons since 2013. What's changed since then?

We've elected an imbecile President,

... who's a Russian puppet and fan boy,

... and announced a "hands off" policy towards Syria through his top staffers.

And some want to believe none of that resulted in a bolder Assad? Please.

So do you think Trump's cheap shot at Obama was justifiable.

If the was an earthquake in California, Trump would find a way to blame Obama for the disaster. . He's a God ( in his mind ) and can do no wrong. . I wouldn't expect anything other from him.

As besties with Putin... he's got a problem now.

Chemical weapons are atrocious. There is a reason they are banned worldwide. .. But this is a war. .. Not only is it one man's war trying to stay in power, but it is also an ideological war. .. Assad believes he is justified in causing pain and suffering in his enemies.

Syria is a quagmire. For some reason Putin is Assad's protector. Iran and Saudi Arabia are using the area for a proxy war. .. Trump promised to fix it all. .. Now how will Trump do that without offending his buddy Putin?

Trump is still learning that his words have meaning. That his tweets are kept. Some people remember things. .. It is like watching someone learn how to be president on the job. .. Sad.

I expected it, we've become a finger pointing nation. Obama blamed Bush, Bush blamed Clinton, on and on. I'd vote for Texas to secede if it wasn't so red.

tickles4us replies on 4/5/2017 7:34 pm:
His blaming Obama for the mess he was handed is expected even though it is a bunch of crap but to say that it was Obama's fault about the use of the chemical weapons after Trump was so public about his opposition to doing anything is sounding pretty stupid. But I guess that isn't surprising.

#45 will not do anything about anything of consequence outside his won agenda items. and if he is impeached, all of his EOs will be rescinded I hope. the destruction he has wrought in 3 short months is phenomenal. and all of that with a skeleton crew. half of which will be gone if the FBI report indicts them on Russia.

do I care about anything he says? no. I care only that we ensure that the congress is turned in 2018. that he is impeached. that he is held to the same transparency as all other presidents. and that we stop paying for him to golf. and his wife to live I NYC

You cannot conceive the many without the one.

tickles4us replies on 4/5/2017 7:27 pm:
I don't think the EO's get rescinded unless it is by his replacement... and that's not likely to be one of Pence's top priorities. He has done a lot of damage and he's only just got started. Hopefully there will be some indictments and convictions.

He certainly hasn't been very true to his word on many things but then again he contradicted himself all the time so his word is pretty worthless isn't it. Hopefully he doesn't do anything to stupid.

There definitely needs to be some changes made about what is acceptable and whom is going to pay for things like separate living locations as well as trips like Trump is making a habit of.

unfit, unqualified, narcissistic, dishonest, in over his head etc, etc, etc, I prefer a simpler phrase - "shit for brains". But does any of what he does surprise anyone? Really?

I agree with the shit for brains assessment. But I wouldn't be to surprised if he was to do something stupid but I guess that wouldn't really be unexpected.

His feeling free to use chemical weapons was because of Obama. Who did nothing about it when he was president

tickles4us replies on 4/5/2017 7:08 pm:
Strange it seems to me he made agreements to never use chemical weapons again and supposedly disposed of all the ones he had.

Trump may or may not be a good business man, but he comes across as a big virgin when it comes to politics, or speak to others, or speak about others, etc. The pearls he comes up with...one day there will be comedy....
The equivalent of that series, Spitting Image, or something!

tickles4us replies on 4/5/2017 11:32 am:
I don't doubt that someday there will be a series about that idiot's presidency. The late night shows are having a field day with the endless material he gives them.

Just stop the nonsense. Everyone acts as though they are right there with Trump every minute of everyday listening to every word that comes out of his mouth. Give it a break already. There is nothing you can do about what he says and what he does. Go on with your life or run for president yourself if you think you can do a better job!!!!

tickles4us replies on 4/5/2017 11:29 am:
If you don't like it don't read it or comment on it. If you want someone to stop the nonsense go talk to Trump because the world would be a better place if he'd stop his nonsense. I'll give it a break when that idiot isn't president anymore. I'm glad I'm not there every minute of every day listening to that moron but he seems to like to let everybody know what a fool he is by tweeting his deep thoughts regularly. Maybe I should run for president, if that idiotic moron asshole can get elected anyone can.

Absolutely justified for our president to say it. Even though everything you quoted was when he wasn't even running for president.

tickles4us replies on 4/5/2017 11:21 am:
So you think he wasn't running for president back then? I suppose you don't think the statements by his people had anything to do with Assad's feeling free to resume the chemical weapons use either?
