Coronavirus....

What do you think about the Coronavirus situation?

Why the hell are all these people panicking?

Why are these fools wasting so much of peoples time and with this bullshit quarantine business? If you want to quarantine places start with hospitals and health centers and folks homes. Those are the places where there are people will die if infected.

The virus, I have no doubt was spreading all over the country and a good part of the world within a month of the first signs of the outbreak in China. The chances of ever containing it this point is about as likely as carrying water in a colander.

Now an immunization is a good thing to invest time and on as it is likely this will be around for a while and there will be mutations so it could wind being like a new flu or cold virus keeps coming around every .

One thing it will do is expose the poor healthcare insurance industry in this country.

Panic buying masks and hand sanitizer is ridiculous. They should be leaving stuff for those it... The people with compromised immune systems and health issues. If anything people should be buying canned and dry goods to have on hand if they get caught in a quarantine. You might want something to eat if you can't leave your house for two weeks because some jackass government official determines you might have the virus. The people going to the hospital should be those have health issues or compromised immune systems or are enough to be concerned about their ability to fight off the complications. In general we're talking about the older folks and family members and the immune compromised people.

So what do you think?

Agree for the most part though I'm not so sure the death rate is all that much more than the flu. I would say that the real number of people who have been exposed and contracted the virus is much bigger than what is being said or confirmed anyways. I expect that many have very little in the way of symptoms and don't even realize they had the virus. The testing broadly of the population is really pointless so only the ones to get confirmed are those that get caught up in a quarantine or go to the doctor to complain of sickness (before this was all over the news I wonder how many were just told well you have a virus and sent home to rest). The death rate may be higher for the elderly or those with compromised immune systems or an existing illness (the very people who are at higher risk of dying from the flu) but it isn't killing the children like the flu often does.

well written and thought-out response. thanx for reading and responding to mine.

no, their role is to inform and alert the public as well as they can.
they want you to be too prepared rather than not prepared enough.
why wouldnt you?

its like the weather. even with all their computers,
its still their best estimate, weather does what it wants.

BUT if they forecast snow, and it doesnt,
so many are like, they dont know what theyre doing.

BUT if they DONT forecast snow and it DOES,
then its like, they dont know what theyre doing -
WHY DIDNT THEY WARN US!

take that for what you will,
but the best answer is to keep paying attention -
as things are always changing.

and always remember, WERE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER

I know... why do people think they have to eat these strange animals and especially animals from the wild that are not raised for consumption and likely to be the carriers of disease. Exotic foods or the insane beliefs of their healing powers etc. etc. are leading to the extinction of many species.

QUOTING: Why the hell are all these people panicking?

i agree, panicking, especially hoarding masks, isnt called for.
and fuck anyone hoarding them for profit like scalpers.

BUT, its still not to be laughed off, people have died from this.

its NOT "fake news",
pay attention to who the media you dont trust use as THEIR sources.
if it comes from somewhere like JAMA or the CDC, pay attention to it!
if it comes from trump, THATS bullshit designed to get himself reelected.

and dont be fooled by the supposedly low number of deaths so far,
its only been around a couple of months
and the death RATE is much higher than the flu.

for perspective, "only" 50 americans per year die from lightning,
but dont you take cover when theres lightning?

this is not a political plot by either of the parties,
and stupidly claiming so takes attention away from the issue at hand
,
a virulent infection we all need to work together to get through.

Since China withheld that the virus got out and was spreading that gave it an advantage. At this point it doesn't sound like researchers really know how to attack it - no vaccine yet. So the only measures are to prevent contact.

Since the US has no believable, intelligent or effective leadership there is no one who can speak to the public from a leadership position. Then, of course, much of the public believes "reality shows" are real so . . .

tickles4us replies on 3/6/2020 6:14 pm:
Well I would say that there isn't any likelihood of ever containing a virus such as this given the reality of the situation. By the time it is even identified it has already spread wide and far especially if it is started in an area with international travelers. The best bet in my opinion is to do the best you can to protect the people who are at risk. That being the elderly, the people with health issues and those with immune systems that are compromised be it from age, illness, medical treatments/medicines or whatever as they are the ones who are at highest risk of dying from this virus.

Certainly Trumps actions towards diminishing the government and those agencies that would be good to have in full force for such a situation aren't helping. And yes I agree with you completely that the leadership disappeared when Obama left office and the joke in there now is about as effective as a whoopee cushion.

Well it is your Republican fear mongering president who is leading in the ordering of the quarantine actions.

I'm not worried but worried we all losing are freedom.

tickles4us replies on 3/6/2020 5:57 pm:
Do you mean losing our freedom because of these quarantine actions? That is a very valid concern. The financial effects of these quarantine activities and the general slow down in business from fear will be a high cost at a time when many people can't afford it.

The media is striking fear into the general public.

tickles4us replies on 3/6/2020 6:29 am:
True. Unfortunately the media has has turned into an attention hound in this day and age for financial reasons and survival needs.

People are dying everyday.

tickles4us replies on 3/6/2020 6:19 am:
True but so does the flu. It is dangerous but not extraordinarily so to the general population. The people who need to be concerned are those with health issues especially older folks and people with suppressed immune systems. Trying to quarantine the flu or a cold virus that has already been spread into the general population is going about things ass backwards. They would be better off trying to quarantine those that are in danger of dieing from the virus than trying to stop the inevitable spread of a cold or flu virus that is virtually impossible to contain in the real world.

Very much so. The media and the governments are both driving fear through a public that is so susceptible to scare tactics.
