Stupid is as Stupid Does---Episode 1 Fishing at the Packery Channel jetty and this genius has laid out 4 poles. He is also holding another pole. Tide is running out and drifting his line across my ONE actively watched and tended line. After the first two times, I stopped suggesting he use surf weights to anchor his lines and keep them from tangling everyone elses lines. He is too busy sucking down beers and hoping his multitude of rods will hook the really BIG ONE. Maybe two hours pass and as I look around, one of his UNATTENDED poles, a nice 8 footer with a level wind Penn reel, starts hopping up and down. Sure sign a fish is hooked. I say nothing...further as I notice the other two fishermen on the jetty have noticed the hopping rod and are about to say something to the rude inconsiderate boozer.....I quickly raise my finger to my mouth in a sign of silence.  They see me and keep quiet.As the BIG ONE makes the rod hop a third time, it falls off the hand rail. It was not tied down. And, starts sliding down the rocks to the water. The inconsiderate boozer finally sees what is happening and of all things, keeps reeling in the rod in his hands(with no fish on it) as he watches the 8' rod slide into the water. He had plenty of time to save it, but chose not to. OK....when asked about it later, he says it was his elderly dads rod and reel. Dad is sitting there wondering where HIS rod n reel have gone. The rod n reel slid down the rocks into the water. And, the BIG ONE was so large it took off and everyone watched the rod disappear at a good pace until we could no longer see it. Sounds like his three mates must have dumped their boozy buddy a few hours earlier and left their rods.
