Of Two Minds. A Poem

I am of two minds
One wants to be
With you yesterday.
Anxious to get
That first meeting
Out of the way.

The other wants
To keep delaying.
Wanting myself
And everything
To be perfect
And just right.

But darling
Sleep is so hard
To come by
With you on my mind
All of the time.

Should I put myself
Out of some misery
And make a concrete plan
And date?
Knowing that parts of me
You might not like?

People might wonder
What's the big deal?
What's with all the fuss?
They have no idea
How much I think
You could be the one.
Yes, my singular sensation..
I don't want to screw
Things up.

I am not like other women
I have these quirks you see
One of them is currently being
Of two minds
When it comes to our
All important first meet.

Is my indecision endearing
Or just a<b> lesson </font></b>in futility?
You have no time
For such a juvenile practice
Of insecurity?
If you can't understand why
I am two minds
Then you are not
The man for me.

The man of my dreams
Would bend over backwards
To make me feel at ease
Not add on to my stress
With ultimatums.

He would understand
Almost instinctively
That this was something
To get right
Not be a bull
But be like a therapeutic
With a of special needs.
Gently nudging
Soft snorts of welcome
Letting hands speak
A truly heartwarming bond
Between and beast.

Yes that is nearly
The right analogy.
Except you and I
Are both human adults
With our minds
On tenterhooks
Knowing our introduction
That all important
First impression
Can portend a wonderful beginning
Or a fizzing dud.

My two minds
Not separated
But held together
By one heart.
Wanting more than anything
An amazing start.
