OMG ... "You Look Exactly Like Your Pictures!"

Yes, yes I do. I've heard this so many times and instead of taking it as a compliment, it makes me wonder "what the heck" ... "Doesn't everyone" ?

Do most people not look like the person they represent on their profile ? And the answer for the most part is an overwhelming "NO". And, I'm shocked. Isn't that some sort of fib ? Hook a person in with a fake or very old photo and an online persona and then piss them off when/if you meet ? Not the road to successful dating, hooking up or finding someone, I'd think.

Okay, so we ALL want to present our best self in photographs. My profile pics are usually me looking pretty cute or as sexy as my cuteness can muster. I admit that ... the first impression photo is my best (our best). I absolutely get that. And I don't post pics of me looking awful ... duh.

In today's society, body shaming is rampant and bullying of the overweight has become the hobby of a lot of social media and generally of mean folks who suck, btw. It being one of the last "socially acceptable" ways to discriminate against a person. (Which, being a bigger but short girl, absolutely infuriated me ... but that's another blog)!

Even still, there is someone out there who likes your little bit extra to love ... men who adore girls who have more on their bones and who's ribs do not stick out, are thick ... those women they are not afraid to break. So hiding your true self might discourage someone who might otherwise adore you just the way you are.

Truthfully my girlfriends who are not model sized are generally happier people. They do not obsess over every morsel they put into their mouth (food-wise dirty minds) nor do they plan their every activity around their fitbit. They are wonderfully happy, successful, natural and fantastic women ... I am one of those. Sure, I could be a bit more healthy ... and would like to fit into that size smaller jeans ... but I am happy, have fun, enjoy life with every sense of me including my taste-buds.

Ladies and Gents ... love YOURSELF ... present your BEST self and stop worrying what others think of what they see.

Beauty is only skin deep rings so true ... be TRUE TO YOU !

I've never understood the rational behind the deceptive pics. I have girlfriends who take flattering pics too far and it doesn't accurately show their size. Each who does this has had meets where the guy has said something negative about their size.

On the other hand, when I first joined, the pics I posted were very real. In fact, one of my closest friends from this world actually said - those pics make you look bigger than you are. You should change them. My response: nope. I would rather have them be surprised in a good way than a bad way.

To this day, I post a variety of pics - all flattering, in my opinion, but showing me as I really am. Because you are dead on...doing anything else just isn't going to work out well.

ps - I'm loving your blog! Just happened upon it and now I'm a fan. Thank you!!!

You are spot on with your comments!!! I don't know how many times I have met someone who is nothing like their profile picture. I always wonder what the thought process is with this "online deception" because how are you going to convince or explain the difference in appearance. I LAUGH AND THINK UNLESS YOU CAN SELL ICE TO A PERSON LIVING IN A IGLOO ....why lie??? Why not just be yourself??? Love your blog!!!

Right ? Thanks for the compliments ...
I mean eventually the deception is going to come to the forfront ... how do you explain that ? Are you really so out of touch that you think someone will fall for your online persona so that appearance won't matter ? Deception is deception ... p-e-r-i-o-d!
