Hollywood Ho' House Review

Directed by Thomas Paine. Released by VCA in 1994.

There's not much of a plot to this feature. The movie begins with Iris (played by Isis Nile) in an interrogation room with vice squad officers played by Cumisha Amato, Sahara Sands, and Jeff Scott. Iris has been caught running a ring in the motion picture industry. There are a series of flashbacks regarding the inception of the ring and her involvement in it. After he statement, she is let go and the officers all have sex. That's all folks. Story Grade: D.

This feature was shot on video. Medium Grade: C.

A mix of real locations and soundstage sets were used in this production. There was a brief outdoor pool scene. The motel set was the best-dressed, while the bathroom set was clearly phony, but nevertheless interesting and visually appealing. The same could not be said for the interrogation room set. Set Design Grade: B.

The sexual performances were generally very good, although the slow-motion cum shots in some of the scenes was probably unnecessary. Isis kept her bra on for most of her sex scene with Peter North which was disappointing. During that scene, she also briefly looked at the camera. Sex Performances Grade: B.

Acting performances by the actors playing cops were not that good. Although Isis Nile was in most of the scenes, there was actually little character development which was unfortunate since her line delivery felt authentic. Acting Grade: C+.

Given that most of the actresses were playing prostitutes, the wardrobe was suitable for that purpose. The bikini that Isis wore during her scene with Gerry Pike really stood out. Wardrobe Grade: B+.

Lighting was inconsistent and was especially noticeable during the Isis Nile/Peter North scene. Too much direct light was used, which produced unneeded shadows. Lighting Grade: C-.

The score wasn't that exceptional, but the sound quality for fair and consistent throughout the feature. Sound Grade: B-.

Some characters were performing in a sex scene before being introduced, which was a bit disorienting. There were numerous shot-framing issues and some of the scene transitions were hokey. The cum on Isis Nile and Micki Lynn magically disappeared at the beginning of their lesbian scene that immediately followed their scene with Alex Sanders and Cal Jammer. Directing Grade: D+.

Although the story was weak, there was definitely some effort put into the construction of the sets. Artistic Merit Grade: C+.

OVERALL GRADE: C.
