I'm part Irish on my mom's side. A good day to recognize a wonderful poet and bard. Happy Friday. "Sweet, steamy, sensuous kisses light the bright fires of passionate lust within us." scott6250

Rabbie was a Tax Collector by trade. No I don't like haggis. We were given it at primary school and it was horrible. I was trying to make a public speech one day quoting several of Burn's poems, but I could never remember my lines and began to stutter and trip over my own tongue. Some concerned delegates called the emergency number thinking I was having a diabetic episode or something, and I was taken to hospital and ended up in the Burn's unit.

42% Welsh, Scots and Irish, 51% Scandinavian and 6.8% Italian, don't ask me what that remaining .2% is because the DNA report did not say. My father owned and wore blue, black and green tartan formal dress a few times. My father's family settled in your area in the 1700s, now wouldn't that be a funny. Some still live in that area. Never had Haggis. Happy Robert Burns Day to you too Joy. I have lifted my pint and one half today too, that is 20 oz or 570 ml. Actually two 16 oz American.

Dad was a stickler about certain things...I am sure he said the tartan pattern he wore was a generic pattern for people that did not know their family pattern. I thought about getting a formal scots dress for father's funeral. There was a piper playing in full dress for the funeral. The siblings and I were there for father's last breath and we shared a whisky toast over him. As he did with us when his brother took his last breath. Father and I shared a whole bottle of Segrams 83 when his father passed, at the Peterborough hospital 1974. Whew!

Mmmmm. Now I want some haggis, neeps (with a bit of parsnip) and tatties with a glass of The Glenrothes. Darn. I'm out of the latter and since moving back to the US, can't find any worth drinking. As for the former ... next time I go grocery shopping I'll have to look for what ingredients might be available for a reasonable faux haggis. (Because finding ingredients for the real thing is ... not easy here.) Or a shepherds / cottage pie. Or both. Funny thing is, the only ancestry that I'm sure is in my veins is actually Hungarian gypsy and Jewish. (Strange how I ended up in Germany for 4 years. Stranger that I was actually a preferred immigrant.) I'm fairly certain that I must have some Scott blood in there somewhere though. There's just no other explanation for me. Whatever family I came from across the pond must have lived next to yours, because I may not always be prepared, but I'm always creative enough to seem like it. Nunquam Non Creativus. We were probably wiped out for being too cheeky. Tartan was black and blue with red all over. (Or at least we were.) Probably told the English to go away and drew them a map. I imagine anyway. It's the only explanation ... worth raising a glass to. Even an herb as sweet as basil is nothing without its bite. Lord Basil

My Irish roots come from all over, but there seems to be some question as to whether there was an initial crossover from Scotland. My sister is doing the geneological research, and I hope she is able to answer that question at some point. Yes there is a wee bit of Scott in me. From my mother's side of the family. My mother, an only child never discussed her Scottish roots or her Dad. I never knew why. I never met my maternal Grandfather, he was out of the picture long before I was even born. Bill, my Nanny's second husband is the guy I'll always think of as my Grandfather. He taught me about Art, he was always painting something , and how to play chess.
