OK here's the thing. As I approach, or find myself smack dab in, the middle, o' middle age; I find myself weighing my successes and failures and going over the personal inventory of my life. I know, like most other folks my age who wear a uniform or perform a service, skilled or otherwise, that I was capable of doing more. With the opportunities afforded a white middle class male brought up during the height of the Reagan years, (Not his doing and a modicum of an as yet undefined kind of smarts , the world could have been my oyster. Or at least I could have toughed it out long enough to find a trade or skill or profession and stick with it! There are those rare few though. The professionals whom, it seems from the moment of their very conception: we're men driven, no destined, to do great things! These men, women, trans, whatever folks will be and are the trend setters and ad hoc decision makers for generations. The people of science who can pick or choose whatever they want to be because they either have the innate raw ability and talent. Or they just have the sheer will to push themselves to be greater than the limits of their own biological programming! Which leads me to my current conundrum. Why would a person of privilege with unlimited smarts and resources decide to be a fuckin' proctologist! (If you do decide to ask yours. Ensure you do it AFTER your exam!) Learned that the hard way!
