Friend request Can anyone explain why some people think it's perfectly ok send a friend request be friends yet there as never been a single exchange with the person. What is the purpose of this? I'm I the only one uncomfortable with this? For it's too much like putting the cart before the . ~Lace |

I def agree....if you havent sent an email...or an IM with a simple ' hello ' or something further.....dont come at me with a friend request. I delete em....i mean.....why bother ? Makes no sense to me.....BUT as Hamo says....for some people.....they gather friends as a symbol of their worth. For me....friends are or should be more meaningful.~~

Another possibility is it’s just their way of saying ‘hey, check out my profile’. Free members are extremely limited on ways of contacting others. Just a thought.

Yea, I never understood that either. Some like to see how many friends they can collect. I rarely accept requests like that anymore. And if I do accept, if that person hasn't said a word to me after a reasonable amount of time has passed, I delete them. What are the really going to say?? Nothing. Exactly my point.

in cyber space here or anywhere that people do not meet face to face its called an acquaintance not a friend..friends are only those people you talk with face to face not over media...if you are that worried about someone sending a " friend " request then dismiss it like most normal people do...complain to the site

I agree that sending a friend request when you have had no contact is stupid. I also figure that such people are just interested in the number of "friends" they can boast of. If you see me in the real world, come say "Hi Justskin." I always behave. Preferably not well.

From another viewpoint, it could sent so as to create something of a shortcut to your profile. If someone likes a profile, they naturally want a way to bookmark it. What better way than a friend request?

Why is it not ok? Who cares? Don't be "friends" with them then. I can tell my real friends from people I only know on the internet. I don't really do the friend thing on this site cause I don't pay but in general across the internet it's just a "hey, I like your comments" or posts or look or whatever. To me its the same as walking up to a lady at the bar. "Hey, you wanna be friends?" is basically what I'm saying regardless of the corny line that comes out. They can choose to reject me or 5 minutes later walk away or signal for me to so the same....whatever. I don't get the offense though....

Ive received those as well. Sometimes from obviously fake profiles. I usually reply first and ask what prompted you to want to be friends when we havent even chatted. Dave

I wonder how many are fake or are made by FriendFinder-x to get people to think they stand a chance. I mean seriously, Is some 27 year old, hot single female in Seattle Washington really going to be sending anything to a 50 year old dude in the middle of Iowa?? I think FriendFinder-x has some kind of program that sends people some kind of teaser that just kind of dangles a carrot to make them think that one day one of these chicks is actually going to materialize out of thin air for them so they keep sending in their $$$

Well it would be easy to get a hold of you the next time they was on this site, if they added you as a friend. That is what i think.
