Stroke and Broken Arm

While at work May 31 I began feeling bad. I drove home and the next morning I fell down and broke my arm. It turns out I had a stroke. I spent a week in the hospital then 2 weeks in rehab. I finally got to come home this week.

They tell me I will make a full recovery over the next 6 months. I realize how blessed I am watching all the people at rehab. I appreciate all the hard work all the nurses and therapists do every day to help and take care of people like me. I will never be able to pay them back.

I didn't break my Arm but did have a stroke at work also. I didn't know what it was and blew it off as a panic attack. I didn't realize it too was a warning for more to come. after I had anger issues and hardly lift freight. this was to affect my left side then in Feb I thought it was my first stroke doctors said no it was my second stroke and it definitely affected the whole left side and with therapy was doing well until May another stroke this time the right side I fell well legs just wouldn't work and couldn't get up and couldn't speak. this time is worse. Depression, language is tough and a lot of falls. The nurses and therapists were wonderful and the home care therapists and nurses were a blessing. I never had and bad feeling warnings to speak of unless we count the first one and if only I knew what it was and got help immediately. I was told about 2 years for total recovery, The brain has to rewire itself. I was in rehab for about a month total.

People tend to look at me as an invalid or to much of a bother to deal with. People can be cruel. Can' they see that people like me are still women or men with needs just like them. We have feelings that can e hurt and feelings of rejection for something we can't help.

I was extremely lucky. My biggest issue is my left hamstring doesn't work. Hearing your story reminds me how blessed I truly am.
