Friday the 13th...origins

Non nobis, Domine, non nobis, sed nomini tuo da gloriam! – Not unto us, o Lord, not unto us, but unto your name grant the glory!

banking... checks...all the financial instruments we take for granted today

these two things are connected by one mighty organization...the Poor Knights of the Temple of Solomon.... otherwise known as the Knights Templar.

Originally formed as a group of 9 military men they petitioned the pope and the King of Jerusalem to be Warrior Monks ...protectors of Pilgrims to Jerusalem...from that humble start they grew to be one of the mightiest and even wealthiest organizations in all Europe.

The humble check that you write for your rent or your dinner was invented by these people as was most of the early practices of modern day banking.

ALL the crowned heads of Europe came to be in debt to the Templars as they needed gold for their Crusades and various other pet projects... the king of France Phillip le Bel was one of these ... heavily indebted he was actually about to run out of gold totally.....to distract his people from this he wanted to start another Crusade and needed gold to do this... and so he decided to relieve the Templars of their gold and destroy them utterly---thus freeing himself of his debt....so with the help of his chief counselor one Guillame de Nogaret (who it is rumored had Cathar Heretics as parents and REALLY had a grudge against all Catholics because of this) and Pope Clement King Phillip trumped up charges against the Order and on Friday October 13 1307 across France and most of the Catholic Nations in Europe (except Scotland and most of Great Britain) by order of both Pope Clement and King Phillip of France the Templars were rounded up on false accusations.... tortured... and a good lot burned at the stake...

The main Preceptory in France was taken by the king's men and ransacked but strangely they found no gold there or in any other Preceptory they searched ---somehow the Templars had found a way to spirit all their wealth off someplace ---WHERE exactly it ended up has never really been found out to this day

The Templar Grand Master Jacques de Molay was burned at the stake along with his top Lieutenants...With his last words Jaques decried the charges set against him and his Order and called upon both Pope Clement who had conspired with the king to do this and King Phillip le Bel ---(literally "the fair") ---to meet him before the judgement seat of the Almighty God within a fortnight ...Jacques also cursed the King's family to the 16th generation...

2 weeks later both the Pope and King Phillip were dead ...Phillip from a fall off a and Clement from eating a batch of poison mushrooms...

the curse lasted down through the generations until its last victim King Louis the 16th was guillotined during the French Revolution when King Louis' head was chopped off it is reported that a man jumped on the platform... dipped his finger in Louis' blood... flicked a few drops over the crowd and shouted "Jacques de Molay thou art avenged!"

The modern day heirs of the Templars are the Freemasons who take a great deal of their rites and philosophy from the Templars---especially in Scotland where the Templars never really died out despite a Papal Bull from Clement disbanding the Order---in fact in Scotland it is possible to find people who are both high ranking Templars and high ranking Freemasons

Friday the 13th was a day of extreme bad luck for the Templars and because it happened in 1307 among an extremely superstitious population it became fixed in the public's mind that this day was bad luck in general... though the WHY of it has been lost for 710 years now...and the 13th falls on a Friday only when the month STARTS on a Sunday
