True Stories of Living in Haunted Houses

My True Stories Of Living In Haunted Houses
scott6250

Since it is the Halloween season I thought that I'd share some of my otherworldly experiences with you.

My very first experience with ghosts was in the early 70's. I was around 10 years old and living in Marietta, Georgia. We lived on an eerie street off of the beaten path. Our house was small and old with an underground cellar, and that is where my first experience occurred.

Our House in Marietta, Ga.

We used to play hide n seek and often I would hide in the cellar. Well, one fall day I was hiding in the cellar around 7 pm and as I walked in I saw something very odd.

There was a roaring fire glowing in the darkness. Curious, I walked closer to it and to my shock and disbelief standing around the fire were four soldiers. I recognized their uniforms as being that of the Civil War era. Confederate uniforms to be more precise.

I could see their muskets laying on a log (that wasn't there before) and some tents in the background with equipment hung on it.They were just standing around eating and talking and their voices seemed far away even though I was only a few feet from them.

Now I wasn't scared because I was an avid reader of horror and ghost stories, but I was truly startled. I observed them for a few minutes and finally got a fright. One of the soldiers looked at me with hollow, sad eyes and pointed at me.

At that point I ran out of their to go tell my brothers. But of course they all thought that I was nuts. That is until the next night when they were hiding in the cellar and saw them too.

They ran out of there like scalded rats screaming for my dad. unbeknownst to us he had seen them before and had never told us about it. It was a cool experience for me and the beginning of several ghostly experiences through the years.

My Grandfather's Ghost

When I was a PFC in the Army, my grandfather passed away and I was called away to Bridgeport, Illinois for the funeral.

The afternoon of the following day we were out playing ball and horseshoes (his favorite game). It was full daylight and things were going along like nothing had happened.
Wrong.... as I was making my last toss, I saw my grandfather standing behind the horseshoe pit. He looked like he had for the last 20 years. He smiled at me and even spoke to me.

He told me goodbye as I had been the only grand to have not been able to see him before he passed of cancer.
It was a very moving experience for me and didn't scare me at all. The wild thing about it is that a couple of my cousins had seen his apparition too.

Ever since then I've felt his presence there whenever I'd visit my grand mother. She has since passed and the sightings stopped.

My Trailer Near Ft. Campbell, KY

Several years later when I was a Specialist in the Army at Ft. Campbell, KY. I had my next sighting. I had just been married a few months and had moved into a trailer court just off post when it occurred.
This was much more scary than the first time I'd run into ghostly apparitions. This was like a poltergeist type of haunting. Off and on during the day dishes would rattle and shake and we could hear weird voices coming from near our cabinets.

Well, one night around 11 P.M. I got up to use the bathroom leaving my wife asleep in bed when the worst of the haunting happened.

I began to hear what sounded like chains rattling along with dishes crashing to the floor. This apparently awakened my wife because she was standing by the bathroom door screaming for me to come here.

When I walked out of the bathroom we walked to the kitchen of our trailer and to our amazement we saw broken dishes and our cookware all over the floor. Even all of the cabinets were flung open. Needless to say, we were scared shitless when we saw this and that wasn't the worst of it. Standing in the corner was an eerily glowing deformed, bloody young man.

He looked like he had been stabbed a million times. He looked so real in the faint light of the kitchen, but when my wife turned on the light he became very hollow and we could see the wall behind him. He was screaming at us in an eerie wailing voice.

We ran out of the house and stayed in a hotel that night. The next day I talked to my landlord about it and he told me that several years ago a young man had been robbed beaten and stabbed on the site where our trailer now stood.

Well, we moved out the next day and got a full refund for our rent etc... This had to be the most horrifying thing that I've ever seen.

Those are just my most memorable ghost sightings. There have been many more. I hear voices in the basement late at night where my room is. Now I know all of the regular sounds as I've lived here a few different times in my life. One last true story for you.

The Bowling Alley

We used to ghost hunt in the bowling alley that I worked in for a few years and that was only 4 years ago. There was a regular bowler that had passed on lanes 17 and 18 of a heart attack.

We saw him roaming around the mechanics area and even on that pair of lanes late at night. And we could hear bowling balls rolling down the lane.

He wasn't one of those scary types of ghosts. He just loved to bowl and this was his final the place of his final game. Rumor had it that he had 11 strikes in a row and only need one more for his first ever perfect game.

We always joked that he must still be trying to bowl that last strike. I certainly hope that her got it. the bowling alley was closed down a few years ago, but the building is still there, so I wonder if our old bowler is still there.

My Dad And An Old Couple

My father passed away about twelve years ago from cancer in our living room.
He is still here and on occasion makes his presence known by shaking and rattling things or by moaning. He suffered a lot in his final days on this earth.

He was constantly in pain and moaned a lot in his sleep from it. I believe the moaning is him still feeling the pain or at least remembering what he suffered through.

I've seen his shadow on the living room walls and in the bathroom. I've even heard his voice clear as day at times. There have been times when I've felt his breath and touch on my shoulder.

It is kind of reassuring to know that he is here, as he was a very important part of my life.

There was an old couple that passed away in the house back in the 60's. They roam around in the house and can be heard moaning and whispering late at night.

They seem to be kindly spirits and do nothing more than rattle things and walk around or should I say float. They both died of old age it seems. I've heard that they were both in their late 80's.

I've seen their ghostly shadows a few times down here in the basement near the washing machine. I've even heard the washer and drier turn on for no reason late at night.

Even today I hear and see strange things down here in the basement. I've seen strange shadows on my walls that shouldn't be there and hear odd sounds and things scraping/scratching against the inside of my bedroom walls.

Even our dog, Pixie seems to hear them and will snarl and bark at nothing. She sits up on the bed and looks off into the corner of my room even though there is nothing there.

I've even heard chains dragging across the basement floor even though there are none in the house. I have even seen things bounce off of the walls.I've seen shadows in the basement as well as in the middle of my room.

I know that there can be nothing doing that because of the way the basement is laid out. I know every inch of it and know all of the normal noises..

Scared, you ask...

No I'm not because my life is in the hands of God, and nothing can happen to me that He doesn't allow.
.

I hope that you've enjoyed reading about my ghostly experiences.

Have a Haunting and Ghostly Halloween Season my friends.
