Life Without You

Looking back, I honestly feel that I never really appreciated you when you were around. The simple things you did for m.e , the way you made m.e feel, all those good times spent with friends, and all those late nights when it was only me and you. How I've missed you marijuana, it's been 31 days since I've tasted your sweet smokey kiss... soon baby...... very soon....

Right before this Covid-19 pandemic started I was going through the motions for a position with a different company. One of my previous supervisors, Joe, had left for a position with them and set me up for an interview with corporate. I felt that my interview was weak. They always interview you with 2 people, one being Joe, and they rapid-fire you with questions about procedure, technique, equipment, and such. I often find myself flustered trying keep the pace. Despite what I felt was a poor showing, a week later I got a site interview with a site supervisor and, again, my old supervisor, Joe. I felt this one was perfect. A few days later my feelings were supported by a call from Joe asking "if I was offered a position, would I accept". I told him I would provided it was more m.o.n.e.y . He said an offer would be coming.

Then the shutdown happened. So, I started smoking, thinking the shutdown would delay any drug testing. On May 1st I started abstaining, again, knowing when we went back t.o work, if this offer came up, I would need t.o pee clean. Well, Joe called last week asking if I was still interested. I repeated my earlier response, "if there was more m.o.n.e.y , yes". He said corporate would call on Monday with an offer.

I've got mixed feelings about going, more m.o.n.e.y is great, but I've got 2 yrs in here. We also have some huge projects lined up for June/July and I'm gonna feel real bad leaving the crew t.o deal with that, because I've always tried t.o let them know I'm a hands on boss, not a hands on my hips boss. Whatever dirty job we have, I'll be right in there with them. I'm not even sure if this company has a drug test. The NFL has dropped their testing for marijuana, because so many states have legalized it in one form or another.

It's been 31 days and I'm ready see this through and move on with my life. Is there anything you've ever given up for a job or for anything, anyone else?

Oooo... That's a good Q !
I've been in positions like that - where the 'grass seemed greener' on the other side and I felt a certain loyalty to the 'other' guys. Ultimately, I did what I thought was best for me. Loyalty is a line in a Card or a Pinterest meme.
Money isn't everything - but it's a LOT ! lol

It's legal here BTW, so they've stopped testing .
It's reassuring that the even our police - only have to wait 24 hours before abstaining.
Hmmm... THAT ...doesn't seem like enough time , if you ask me. lol

I've been lucky in that anything I've given up was generally for something much better. For instance, when I got to the point where I wanted to race cars in a fairly serious manor I decided I had to cut back on partying, drinking, "womanizing" etc. Odd thing was the racing helped get me in contact with several women who became girlfriends. I did end up at some race related parties, but drank a lot less.

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

I gave up cigarettes way back in the 80s because the guy I was dating at the time wanted to quit and asked me to quit too.

I had a job give me up because I didn't pass the mj test... never the other way around.

I can't imagine. On Sundays we used to race our Nortons in the hill country for about 4 hrs of high speed cornering. By the time I got home it felt like someone had beaten me with a broom stick. To take that to the point of a career would take a lot of physical and mental stamina. I get wore out mowing the lawn these days.

OMG, 30 yrs ago I had an interview with the local HD dealer and the service manager asked me if I did drugs. Of course I said "No". He said "well we do drugs, is that gonna be a problem for you?" I told him I only quit drugs for lack of money. We smoked a joint in the shop my 1st day at work. Swear to God, true story!

That's true, loyalty only matters on a small scale, in the eyes of corporate it matters squat. Position and power matter, and I have neither.

I use to work at a hospital. When I left to go work for a doctor's office, I took a pretty big pay cut but I gave up working holidays and weekends. It was the best move I ever made. (and the money difference was made up in a couple of years)

I've never had to worry about drug tests ... it's not one of my vices.

Opportunity may knock only once, but temptation bangs on the door forever!

I think we have all given up things for something in our lives at one time or another. I hope all works all works out for you, I am so glad that MJ is legal here, but there is still drug testing for certain jobs, like jobs that entail driving, and working with heavy machinery.
'
I am not sure what all the limits are as we are retired and don't have to worry about that. You know my hubby smokes it as his doctor says it's better for his pain that the medications they gave him before. And since his heart attack he can smoke that as much as he wants since he had to quit smoking cigarettes.

I hope you have a peaceful Sunday..

Seduce the mind and see what a wonderful adventure the body will take you on..

Most of the races I ran were sportscar "sprints" so about a half hour to 45 minute race, practices and qualifying varied from 45 min to 75 min - 2 of each over a 2 day period. At 1 place Hallett (north of Tulsa) on a July 4th 3 day weekend I lost 10 lbs that I did not need to lose. Sears Point is a similar kind of place.

It would be a good move, more money, a higher position, but I have grown fond of my current place of employment and feel very secure. I'm gonna let the money decide it for me.

I'm not really running heavy equipment and I don't like to work high. I really like smoking when I get home just to relax and help me sleep.

Oh, I'm sure you did! I got super dehydrated riding my bike. At least I had the wind in my face keeping me cool.

My last job was a fun job... After 2 years I had to give it up for better benefits, more money, and full time. My daughter needed braces, I needed a new car, and I wasn't going to be able to afford that on my old salary and no dental. So, I guess I gave up a piece of my life for my current job.

If you take the job, will you be able to go back to smoking mj when you want or will you still be subject to random drug tests? Since so many states have now legalized it, I'm a bit surprised so many places still test for it.

I'm hoping all the insurance benefits are as good as those I currently have. My dental and vision are excellent. My medical, meh, it's ok.

Right? It's almost acceptable. No random testing, just the initial test. I can understand not wanting stoners on the job, but I don't like working high anyway.

If the present company's upcoming projects are not offering any new challenges or learning experiences, then your crew can handle them without you. There's more to changing jobs than money such as benefits, learning, advancement, vacation time, new friends and contacts, etc. Best of luck!

I gave up smoking pot for almost 35 years, working in an industry that was governed by DOT and FRA rules. IT's funny, but I have found there's a whole group of retirees that didn't smoke for years because of company policies, but now that they retired? lol game on. In my case, it wasn't retirement that got me started back, it was the pot that was leftover from my husband smoking to relieve the effects of chemo. I tried it..........and liked it.

All those things you mention are true, plus it would be exciting at a new company. Well, it would be new to me.

I've given it up for different reasons before and usually don't miss it, but I'm on season 2 of American Horror Story and it would be so much better high.

Money's not everything......I've often persuaded guys to stay because of the good work-life balance, and working for a considerate employer makes a huge difference. However, once the head has been turned it really only delays the inevitable. And then probably 90% of leavers have called me 6 months later to ask if they could come back......

I once sacrificed a good business to get away from a cunt that I worked with, sorry for the language but that's the only way to describe him. It was expensive, but I never looked back, most of the guys/gals that I wanted followed me shortly after I set up again.

ps - I'll take the dos equis any time!!

I am one of the 'rare' ones who stayed at the same company for the duration of my 'corporate' life. I had no thoughts of retirement but that decision was taken away from me when I was 'downsized'. Although I was upset at first (you never think it's going to happen to you), in many ways, my life has changed for the better.

The supervisor I know there, Joe, was with my outfit for 32 years and says he really likes it at the new place. He makes it sound great, but I just don't know if I really want to leave. If I stay, in 3 more yrs and I'll get a 5 year pin!!!

I have considered the possibility of layoffs or cutbacks and being in the position I'm in gives me a little breathing room, room I may not have if I'm the FNG of the new place.

*FNG=fucking new guy.

I feel fortunate that at my old job, they only tested if you were suspected of being impaired on the job. No random tests and I don't think they did applicant testing.

As for whether you should accept the job offer...my thinking during these uncertain times would be to try to evaluate if one company is more stable than the other. Sadly, I think a lot of businesses are not going to survive the current recession.

I was thinking, after the current company paid me during the shut down, I'd feel pretty bad jumping ship, now.

That's a good point, I think I'd feel obligated to stick around at least for a while.

It would kind of be equivalent to a mom who leaves a job right after her paid 10 week maternity leave!

Good luck with whatever choice you make if you get the offer. Lots of things to consider given the economy and all. I wouldn't feel to loyal because of the pay you received during the shut down though as it may have been paid for by the tax payers if you know what I mean (if the company got in on the government assistance programs that were to be used to pay employees).

I've never smoked anything or used any drugs so the only thing I have ever had to be careful about was not getting any speeding tickets as most of the jobs I have had involved lots of traveling about. So I guess I haven't given up anything more than a lead foot...

Yes, they have a "use it or lose it" contract with the state/feds so the money had to be accounted for.
