What Wrong With The Country.

I just realized what's wrong with this country. It's me. Well, me and the 100 million other citizens who vote. And the many non-citizens who vote illegally. We choose the inept 535 members of Congress who seem to have only two goals in their lives. Get re-elected and get rich. President Truman had it right. "An honest public servant can't become rich in politics. He can only attain greatness and satisfaction by service." That means that if you are not rich when you enter public service, you shouldn't be rich when you leave public service. There are probably 520 current members of Congress who don't meet that criteria. And most are Democrats running for President in 2020.

Members of congress are paid $174,000 per year. Majority and minority leaders and the Speaker of The House get slightly more. Not bad for working less than 3 days a week. The House of Representatives has averaged 138 legislative days a year since 2001, according to records kept by the Library of Congress. That's about one day of work every three days, or fewer than three days a week. The Senate, on the other hand, was in session an average of 162 days a year over the same time period. I little better, but still.... Not many member of Congress ever pay for a meal or drinks, and many never pay for travel anywhere. Just the added perks of being in a position where you can help out a friend (or campaign contributor) now and then. And the congressional staff numbers just keep getting bigger and bigger. Your tax money at work.

But they still get a 13% approval rating. Put 535 monkeys in Congress, and they would do better than that.

You may not like President Trump, but he takes no salary and mostly financed his own campaign. He owes his success to no one. That's is except according to Obama. You know, his quote "success is not a result of someone working hard or being smart and that if you started your own business, you didn't build it yourself." (Obama, July 13, 2012). This from a man who never had a real job in his lifetime but got rich just the same.
