The LOST art of the pickup line.

Maybe it's my nostalgic viewpoint on life or just the sense that I need a good stiff drink, but the more time I spend in the FriendFinder-x instant messenger system, the more I miss the good ol days of hanging out in a pickup bar. The idea of going out to a bar or dance club with your wingman at your side, fully intent on getting drunk and "hitting on" all the hot women that we see with our best pickup lines and oozing charisma. Granted there were more times that I'd like to admit that I crashed and burned - going down in total flames with my tail between my legs. But that was okay, because 5 minutes and 2 shots later, I'd be right back up on that throwing down my best soliloquies to the blonde or hot redhead two seats down from the girl who just told me to take a<b> hike.
</font></b>What I am missing while trying to start up a conversation online, is the instant gratification (either good or bad) that you receive from experiencing a face to face conversation. Maybe I'm trying to hard to be unique or different in my messaging, but I don't think a basic Hi, hru - is worthy of anyone's time to open and read... PLUS I'm not much for saying hey babe, look at my dick and let's fuck!
My approach is to steer more towards the funny sarcasm and some how be witty enough to leave a quick one-liner that will hopefully catch the person's eye so they read it and offer back a response. Unfortunately most of the time, I get a "Delivered " alert, but not a read or if I'm lucky a response back. Sure I understand that most women on this site get 10x more messages than any of us guys... and I'm sure being a standard member doesn't help. But if being unique and funny is not enough to peak one's interest, than I'm not sure what is the best way to break the virtual ice and allow someone to get their foot in the door enough to showcase your true personality and hopefully lead to more conversation and ultimately a ride home. Who knows... but for now I guess I'll just have another shot with my wingman, sitting in front of my computer. Bottoms Up!
