Another one? Whats wrong with people ?

Original writer of the story here is Colleen Barry from the Associated Press.
Yet another whale washed up on the shore of Italy near Sardinia with almost 50 pounds of plastic in its stomach, only this time it was a pregnant sperm whale..She actually starved to death and when her corpse was found she was in a terrible mess..Her unborn calf still in her belly was in a very advanced state of decomposition as was she ..The Environmental group that did extraction of items that was found in its stomach consisted of these things:
A corrugated tube for electrical work
Plastic plates
Shopping bags
Fishing lines and rope
A washing detergent package with its bar code still legible.
The total weight of all the items was 48.5 pounds ...sadly its becoming a bigger problem than imagined The Mother whale was unable to digest the food it needs to survive because two thirds of its stomach was filled with plastic and other garbage ..
WWF said plastic is the number one killer of all the ocean sealife and whales ingest more than other sea creatures because of the ability to take in hugh amounts of its natural food .and when its hugh mouth is taking in food other things such as floating garbage goes in as well..WWF says that 150,000 and 500,000...tons of plastic objects and 70,000 and 130,000 tons of micro -plastics wind up in Europe's seas every year..
To try and combat the growing problem the European Parliament last week approved a new law banning a very wide range of single use plastic products which includes straws and plastic plates ...Italy now has been putting into place their own laws that will also see a ban on plastics..the new perspective laws will permit fishermen to gather and recover plastics at sea and allow the t bring them in for proper disposal at which time they were actually barred from doing ...maybe to late? Maybe!

We need to go back to glass more return or deposit. Bring your own bags, crates,or boxes to bring home your food. Yes humans are lazy people. Yet it's not just one person or many to blame. Beg business and countries. That dump in the ocean that has a return policy and treable out come to all living things. I say send it all to spade and burn it up. No land fills or ocean dumping. Centeral location a major plant to load and send to the outer limits . I know it only a dream .but think of this if we did find a new world out in space what would be different there how would we keep it safe from human. Have a wonderful day recycle best you can it all one can do.

Great response! Unfortunately, the oceans have been the world's dumping ground for years and it doesn't appear to be getting better. Hopefully this stark reality hits the mark and we start the long overdue cleanup.

Some countries have no - or no functioning - garbage disposal system where it is common to dispose of all its garbage on the beaches or rivers.
It should finally stop producing meaningless plastic packaging and utility items.

I hope so but there is a more important factor here a lot of countries have no way to dispose of their garbage and it is just dumped where ever the people feel the need to and there has to be a way of maybe burning it ..all plastic burns and there should be a way of burying it so that it does not get into the oceans..

We are lucky here in Atlantic Canada to have such facilities to rid the land of garbage Canada has the man power and resources to do just that and ppl from all over the world come here to learn about how to rid their garbage...the planet is a cess pool of unclean and the animals are the ones who suffer..

I recycle everything and I have glass straws. Many towns and cities along this Maine coast have banned the use or plastic bags in the stores. I take re-usable totes everywhere. Your post ought to some place where it can go viral

yes I know you are a very conscious recycler and its good that the State of maine has done that and I as well do not take anything to the bin unless I know it will end up being destroyed ..I have a hugh furnace in my garage and a big fire pit across the road so everything I don't recycle of cannot recycle is burnt..gary is a good one for that hes very diligent there ...

Unfortunately, a lot of people just throw their trash down wherever even when there are places to recycle or dispose of garbage. We have single-stream recycling where I live, easy as can be, and I still see tons of plastic cups and newspapers being thrown into the trash. Sickening.

Another thing that would help is a system of reusable prescription bottles. I take something that I will need to take for the rest of my life and I would love to be able to take a reusable bottle back to the pharmacy and they just drop the pills into it after they do all their mandated checking with insurance.

yeah I know what you mean the pills I take is gonna be for my life and it would be nice to just take it back and have it filled but again the system here is not one that has any plans to do that ..we have a roadside garbage adopt a section of highway ..each community has their own members who go along and gather garbage from the ditches...its a good program and helps raise awareness for litter ..
