Nova Scotias opt out organ .

Well in about 18 -20 months the Legislation goes into effect..The people who have the organ listed on their drivers licence will be able to opt out of being an organ donor and after Nova Scotia's decision to make all adults of legal age potential organ donors. People that have already have it stated on their drivers licence and have already have stated otherwise that they wish to remain as such .Families would definitely be approached to confirm the donors wishes..
I went through this when my husband passed away , apparently Nova Scotia is one place that the surviving non married spouse cannot ensure that the dead spouse organs be donated to others that may need them ..The only ones who can are the family members and the one who was chosen to call was an older brother and against my husbands wishes he denied someone a life saving organ that my husband wanted to donate , it actually was on his drivers licence as a donor but his brother said no! But the whole family was like that , selfish and only thought of themselves and not others...
Now under presumed consent there will not be an issue with this once the legislation is passed ..The goal is to increase organ from deceased persons..There is a tremendous backlash from this decision and from Ethnic groups but this is something that will need to be worked on because of the diversity of people who do not believe it will benefit anyone, having organs harvested from a deceased loved one.I am a diehard organ donor and if someone can use any part of my body after I am gone what difference does it make? I would never be coming back to discuss it...
Most people in the Province want the decision to donate and those who do not will be given the chance to opt out..whats the big deal? people who are waiting for life giving organs will benefit and be able to live a decent life because of this..takes away the persons right to give? then opt out ..simple and ethnic groups can opt out as well.. its their choice according to their beliefs ...again simple..I think people are selfish who do opt out when a life saving organ can give a sick person who definitely needs an organ ...Its a very selfless act on a person who says yes I will donate an organ...again its my belief and opinion not the story writers ...

Its a selfless act for one human to want to give an organ to someone who really needs it in order to live a decent life..what if it were a child needing an organ donation?

It's a great idea that's overdue given the length of the waiting lists for organs. You have the right to opt out, so I don't see that liberties are being trampled. Way to go Nova Scotia!

thanks my opinion exactly , its long been overdue and people get upset if someone uses the wrong fork at the dinner table ..lol they will get over it , no one looks at the positive and always the negative..if it was possible for me to have a leg attached and someone wanted to donate one I be laughing for sure ..thanx for your support..

Personally, Wifey and I have both in our lives donated blood many times. Unfortunately we both now have prescriptions which make this difficult as the vampires are awfully picky about pollution. Wifey has already set herself up as a body donor to a specific scientific research foundation and has the paperwork and living will done. Me, I'm kind of lazy and not sure which way I want to go, so just have the generic organ donor mark on my driver's license for now. Of course it's academic as I'll one day soon ascend into becoming a living deity and thusly never age or die. Right? I could swear I signed up for that program...

As for the change in law ... I don't know if I like this or detest it. Kind of ambivalent...

On the one hand, saving lives is good.

On the other hand, anyone subverting choice with an opt-out policy is a skeevy asshole. Opt-in is the only fair way to do it.

And I'm also a believer that the world is horribly overpopulated. So honestly, saving lives is not a way to make that problem better. I'm not sure what is. No matter how you cut it, ending lives (or at least not helping) is a dick move, even if it does serve a greater good. The ends don't justify the means. If we lose who we are, what's the point?

But look at the shitstorm we're fucking up this planet. If we don't cut it out and learn to do more with less, we're dooming a not-too-distant future generation to hell on Earth.

When all is said and done, tricking people into donating their organs to continue overpopulating this blue marble doesn't seem like such a great act, to me. Next thing you know they'll be choosing who gets what, as if acting as judge, jury, and executioner is not playing god by deciding who lives and who dies. I sure hope that isn't a part of their plan, but how can anyone trust a mind which starts the process with the intentional dubiousness of opt-out?

I don't know. Sometimes I think life is just a series of concentric hells meant to grind us into the subservience of apathy. Why do we always have to choose the lesser of evils. Can't we be offered a good choice for a change?

I want my rainbow Skittle shitting flying unicorn-Pegasus crossbreed wandering the fluffy clouds and sunshine days, bringing joy and fruit flavors to all.

This law change ain't that. It's at best a lotus blossom on the surface, with roots deem in muck and mire.

A commercial campaign to inspire people to make a choice and donate would have been so much more noble. Even if the self-centered nature of mankind would have depressingly ignored it.

Even an herb as sweet as basil is nothing without its bite.
