Whatever happened to the word " humble?"

Humble, the word has a few meanings but it conveys the ability be modest or unassuming ...putting oneself on an even or same level with another ..ok being said i come from humble beginnings... Dad was a very humble and unassuming man..He never put himself above anyone but considered himself as good as the next person ..He taught us and we all learned very valuable lesson life first and foremost..
Growing up in a community where everyone treated each other the same , no one ever put themselves on a higher plane than their next door neighbor...no one ever questioned the other because equality always took precedence over everything else ..Today its changed so much when we look for the " humble " its almost completely disappeared..
Now i am not saying people shouldnt think they are less important than anyone else but when it comes down the single individual there seems be alot more people who put themselves the spotlight with words like, "; i am handsome " or " I have alot more offer "; , why is ? Are these people saying they have risen above others a higher level? or do these people think thats the only way they will be able Impress others?
I see this all the time from both women and men , its a competition thats one way of putting it. People have compete and thus have risen putting themselves above and beyond by adding those things will make them stand out...I suppose some cases attitude has alot do with it..but attitude used right should do the trick more so than bold and brash ...after all there is nothing more appealing than using what you are given life..One of them should be unassuming or humble.. Dad stood the community because he didnt make himself be a cut above the rest , he was well respected ..
So next time you read a profile really read it, doesnt matter if its here or anywhere , it tells you alot about person. I seen a profile the other day impressed more with a few words than all i have read so far, it said ,"; I dont discuss personal problems and i really dont want hear about your personal problems." Thats it ...those few words said more than a whole book...but thats what i look for, we all have things we look for that makes us go ."; i really like his or her profile ";. Different strokes for different folks...have a great day peeps...

yes thats true enough but there is a difference between preference and opinion..My preference is to meet and or chat with a man who means what he says in simple terms... opinion as far as that goes is up to the individual to express to others what they think or believe...i am just being honest when i say more people should be a bit unassuming and show some restraint and thats my opinion not my preference

everyone has the right to be where ever they want and give an opinion to what they feel is what they believe and respectfully within the boundaries of the law and what is within the boundaries of the site here or anywhere, true that and if ppl do harass others then they should be reported ..opinions can be hurtful and never should be disrespectful to anyone....thanks for the comment ...have a great stay here and have a great day..

I believe truly humble people keep quiet about their accomplishments and the good things they do.

let your actions speak for themselves.... people respect others that do things and make things happen... and when you treat other people with dignity and respect it gets noticed... over time the portfolio of your accomplishments, large or small, become the fabric of who you are... and if folks find you interesting, they will ask to learn more in casual conversations... and that leads to all sorts of new adventures!

absolutely true i couldnt agree more that was exactly how my Dad was he would do for people what he could and never expect anything in return and he never bragged about the good or bad ..I admired him for that because of his private ways ...i dont expect to look look up to everyone like i did him but i also think that alot of people treat privacy too casually...they always expect someone to pat them on the back at every little skip of their heart ...its nice to be recognized for accomplishments it does feel good to have someone acknowledge what you do but it goes too far when every thing someone does is because they expect it.....thanks

of course as an individual that goes without saying...and yes when someone knows the meaning of treating others as they want to be treated says much for the golden rule ...but again privacy today is treated much too casually , people who tend to tell every little bit of their private affairs does little but create a person who has to always be in the spotlight ...it doesnt make them less of a person but it does make them less humble...we live in a world of constant competition and it makes for a " see me " ..." look at me " person ..not very desirable in my world ..but its my preference and a bit of an opinion..lol thanks

humble does mean not caring about another person's issues....that could just mean you're cold or selfish. humble is how you approach life in general and how you stand before God

You cannot conceive the many without the one.
