Internet and female empowerment

This is more of a question than a blog. I have only been on here a short time and one of the things that has struck me is that everyone can be free and open and seemingly be treated on equal terms. But I wonder if that is actually the case. Is there still a sense of men trying to assert some form of misplaced<b> authority </font></b>or trying to maintain an outdated hierarchy or people really treated equally?

I have found myself having to be careful as there seem to be a lot of people out on here who are not who they purport to be, but having said that everyone has been polite and fair, too. I do hope that women are treated with respect on here. Even those that profess to want to be dominated, should still be allowed to do so with respect and equity.
