Try outs and Team-ups
Try outs and Team-ups In an earlier blog I shared my excitement in finishing my Iron Fist collection. Today I'm going to share another collection I have. This is a DC (Detective Comics) collection instead of a Marvel one. Brave and the Bold was a comic that ran from 1955 to 1983 (200 issues). They also did three short runs in 1991, 1999 and 2018 (6 issues in each run). Plus a run from 2007 to 2010 (35 issues). Volume 1 which started in 1955 was a try out book to start. The first 24 issues were some combination of the Silent Knight, The Golden Gladiator, Robin Hood, and the Viking Prince. Issues 25-27 were the first appearance of the suicide squad/task force x. 28-30 was the First appearance of the Justice League of America, 31-33 was Cave Carson Inside Earth. Issues 34-36 were the First silver Age appearance of Hawkman (and Hawkgirl). Then they did Suicide Squad again 37-39, Cave Carson 40-41 and Hawkman 42-44. 45-49 were Strange Sports. Obviously Justice League, Suicide Squad, and Hawkman got their own books after their "tryouts" Starting with issue #50 Brave and the Bold turned into a team-up book. Teaming up different characters. #54 (the only book I am missing from 46-200) was the first appearance of Aqualad, Flash and Robin (which became the titans). After #50 the only non-team-ups were 57 and 58, the first appearance of Metamorpho. Then from issue 74 till it ended at 200 it was a Batman and another character team-up. I am working on finishing this run but the majority of the ones I do not have (all early issues) are cha-ching. I do have the full run of the 2007 volume 1-35. These are just straight team-ups which was nice to see them redo. Personally the team-up books were some of the best. It is why I liked the Justice League and the Avengers. You get more than one hero at a time Not only were there some great stories in these volumes, but some of the art work and artists that contributed were great. Jim Aparo (one of my favorites) did a lot of Brave and the Bold work. Neal Adams did as well. In fact Neal Adams artwork in #85 is the image of Oliver Queen (Green Arrow) that everyone thinks of, when they consider the character. Anyway I have rambled about my collection long enough. Please feel free to share your thoughts, memories, or collections. I would love to hear about or see them. |

I dont mind you can ask me anything... Some of these I've had since my childhood. I do have a couple local shops I go to. The one closest to me is where Inget all my new/current books from. I've done a bunch of Ebay, and I have a couple of collectors who search for me as well. Always helps to have extra eyes. For me the hardest part is finding readable books that I am willing to pay X amount for. I keep myself on a strict budget per pay I can spend on anything for my self.
