 I think communication is key. as is education and then as adults the person can make up their own mind. I would hope that the person who is in the lifestyle already is honest and is able to judge whether the person who is being introduced to the lifestyle is in the right frame of mind to understand the implications.

I do disagree with the ' never can go back' idea.
