The fly and the trains - brain teaser

There are trains, traveling towards each other on parallel tracks. is going forty miles an hour and the other sixty miles an hour. At the instant the trains are hundred miles apart, a fly on the front of the slow train flies the front of the fast train, turns and heads back the slow train. The fly can do hundred miles an hour. The fly continued this the trains meet and then rests on the train he is at. How long is the fly in flight?

I will keep the comments private January 23 (twenty ) and then make them public with the answer.

And to make the list and insure all words are here.

There are two trains, traveling towards each other on parallel tracks. One is going forty miles an hour and the other sixty miles an hour. At the instant the trains are one hundred miles apart, a fly on the front of the slow train flies to the front of the fast train, turns and heads back to the slow train. The fly continued this until the trains meet and then rests on the train he is at. How long is the fly in flight?

I will keep the comments private until January 23 (twenty three) and then make them public with the answer.

If the trains are on parallel tracks, by definition they cannot be travelling towards each other.

While I maybe should have said parallel and immediately adjacent, the lanes on a highway are parallel ,yet the cars on the road traveling in opposite directions are traveling towards each other.

And the answer is … one hour.

The trains travel 40+60=100 mph total 100 miles/ 100mph= 1 hr.

I was thinking it was an hour/ but then I thought the fly might have face planted into the other train like they do on a car windshield- dead fly!!

It is a very athletic fly, 100mph to 0 to -100 mph in an instant.

Thank you for dropping by.
