What is your favorite messenger service?

Remember the day when people only used AOL messenger, Yahoo messenger or Microsoft messenger. We thought life was complicated back then. Everyone thought things would eventually move toward one common service. In fact the reverse has happened.

Below are listed some of the more common services. Just pick your preferred way of communicating. If the service you use is not on the list then just add it in the comments. If the service you use is on the list then perhaps give a reason why you like it in the comments so we can all learn what other people are using.

Personally I try to use the same screen name all over for simplicity but this is not always possible. This often makes it hard to communicate with someone but that is life in 2019. Oh how i miss the good old days of AOL - really, I do. But they progress is a good thing so go ahead and take the poll:
AFF Instant Messenger
KiK
FaceBook Messenger
Snapchat
Instagram
Text message
WhatsApp
Telegraph
Trillian
Messages (Apple)

When it comes to services used in conjunction with FriendFinder-x, KiK is the one i see used most often. However, I think there are real advantages in term of privacy in using Snapchat so that is probably my favorite at the moment. I try and stay away from anything associated with FaceBook (FaceBook Messenger, WhatsApp and Instagram) but if i had to pick one of the three I would pick WhatsApp because it is more private.

Trillian is old school, but still running for those that know it and love it.

For text you can one of the phone apps that give you a local phone number for free provided you use it. That keeps things separate from your work etc.

Telegram is big in the Hong Kong riots but i do not know anyone using it.

Hey, what about ICQ?

I'm a Kik person, but don't have the same handle on there as here anymore. Too many lost passwords on Kik to recover the account. It's... inconvenient, to say the least, especially given how buggy the chat system around here can be.

I think FriendFinder-x is find for introductions. But once the person shows interest I like to take it somewhere more personal like Snapchat where I am more confident that they actually got the message. On FriendFinder-x if the person logs off before they read your message I believe that it just disappears into the ether. I could be wrong about that in which case please correct me.

I do think FriendFinder-x plays a very unique role. None of the phone apps have ever come close to matching what FriendFinder-x does. That is why I stick alone even with all the difficulties on FriendFinder-x.

I use FB with friends and family and Kik with people I'm meeting for the first time. I like the fact that you can be anonymous on kik.
Although I may check out snapchat or others. Wickr Me, is a good one for security!

The good thing about Snap is that the messages disappear and if anyone tried to save a screen shot you get notified. So you know exactly what the person on the other end is doing. Well almost. As with anything, there are ways around it, but it does make it and order of magnitude harder and i am not going to explain how

I have Wickr Me but i have not used it and no one has ever requested we communicate there. KiK and text are probably the two most commonly requested.

I can never get on the IM here. I thought that was free if you had enough points.

If you have points you should be able to receive im. Unfortunately I am out of points or i would test it out for you.

Do you mean actual phone calls or do you mean text message. I did not even think to include phone calls. Interesting point.

I prefer text messaging. It's reliable and available across many kinds of cell phones, so I don't have to have the same app platform as someone else to communicate.

Skype wasn't on the list but I use it for communicating with my friends. It's not quite as convenient for quick messaging on the go, but when you want to settle in and have a good conversation, it's nice. I hate talking on the phone however, don't like trying to listen to someone I can't see.

Thanks for mentioning Skype. I considered putting that on the list but I was not sure if people still used it other than making calls. So yea, its interesting that you prefer it. Good to know.

Wonder why FriendFinder-x is falling behind? Mmmm

earth2adam4u replies on 10/25/2019 5:29 am:
What is more shocking is that FriendFinder-x is beating Snapchat which is a far superior platform. I guess this is just not the demographic for Snap but still. Don't get me wrong, there is a place for FriendFinder-x as a web site, but as we all know the messenger is "lacking".

Kik works well in conjunction with FriendFinder-x.
