Is it me or, all the toys out on the market today totally over priced? I may be because of inflation, but I remember buying toys for my kids at Christmas and not having to bust the bank to do so. Sure the Nintendo 64 was a bit expensive at fifty - some bucks when I bought it for my sons . But it came with Super Mario, and Duck hunt. So really a bargain when you looked at it. Today's gaming systems are over the moon when it comes to price. No games come with them either. I let my daughter pick out the Grands toys this year, and as I watched her full the shopping cart and the cost started to rise and it looked like there was really nothing there. I started looking around for something to flesh out what would be a bare amount of gifts under my tree for them.

As luck would have it Board games were on sale. I don't know if it was an in store thing or what? But if you bought two games you got the third one free. Cool beans! Three grands. Three board games. Now the youngest is really too young yet to play board games with her brother and sister, so I got her a memory game, where you pick up a ducky and try to match the picture on it's bottom with another ducky in the game. I figure if she doesn't get how to play she can at least play with the duckies. For the grandson, I bought him the classic "Battleship" game though the one I picked up was updated, and instead of battle ships you had space ships and several levels of pay to set up your armada. The same Co. makes the game and the classic was available, but I thought he'd like this newer style better. For the other grand daughter I picked up the operation game, I remembered my sister had gotten it one Christmas back in the day, and although I was never allowed to play the game with my older siblings ( too complicated for me I was always told, or I'd loose the pieces ) I always had fun watching them play, getting a kick out of when they messed up and touched the sides and the guys nose would light up. Games in the shopping cart, I picked up the operation game when we passed the battery display, remembering that the old version of it needed batteries to play searching the box to see what size and how many batteries I would need..and low and behold, the new up dated game doesn't require batteries. Again..Cool Beans!

So I figured I have the toy situation covered now, what with the games and what my daughter picked out for the kids. I'll still need to shop for some clothing for them, and a bit of sweets...candy etc. Of course I always grab a few DVD's as well, Christmas movies or something their into.. It's starting to feel a lot like Christmas now. Though I dread having to wrap all the stuff. No matter how hard I try it always looks like I did the job blindfold. No matter... two seconds after seeing the stuff under the tree they'll have the wrapping ripped off and strewn about the floor. Then It will feel like Christmas....

Off to shower now....then put on my ratty old bathrobe...it has to be ten years old at least...been dropping hints hoping that one of my kids will pick up on the fact that I need a new one...hum I wonder if it's too late to write Santa?

I hate wrapping too - I try to put most things in gift bags.

I'm glad you had fun shopping. I miss shopping with my girls. Or even a GF.
Your grandkids will be ecstatic on Christmas
