If My Dad were alive he'd say I was rushing the season. Our tree at home never went up till a few days before the twenty-fifth of December, sometimes Christmas Eve. Of course there was the outside of the house to decorate as well. Stringing the old style of Christmas lights along the eaves, putting up the yard decorations, home made by my Dad. Well, the decorations not the lights. He made two scenes for display, all life sized, alternating them each year.

Getting the plans out of the local paper. Sending off a letter to get back prints of Santa and Mrs. Clause along with about twelve elves doing various tasks of making toys, sewing etc. The prints were glued down to half inch plywood, then cut out to form the figures. Then they had to be staked and mounted using guide lines and such in the front yard. Then we'd set up spot lights so the scene would show up at night. The other scene was of the first Christmas.. Complete with a home built manger. That along with all the animals, sheep, Camels, goats, the three wise men, the whole cast and crew as it were. Again all life sized, the camel alone took two sheets of half inch four foot by eight foot plywood and needed three stakes and two back props and enough guide wire to keep it upright. That scene was a pain to set up and took some time to do. Santa , and Company not so much as all the elves were smaller and could be placed with out having to use the guide wire. Any who, all this work was usually done the week before Christmas. I guess it kept us Minions occupied and out my Moms hair so she could wrap presents and make cookies and such with out us under foot snooping as to what we were getting that year. Then there was the neighborhood decorating contest, which we won most years. I think the grand prize was less than what my Dad put into making the decorations. The manger scene was eventually donated to our church to display, I don't know what happened to Santa and Mrs. Clause or the Elves. Though I expect they were cut up or used to fix or make other things.

Getting back to my Tree... I usually set it up on the Friday after Thanksgiving. Having the day off I had the time to do so then. With the new owners taking over I no longer have the day off so I'll be working that day. Hence the rush ( as dad would have said ) to set it up. I still need to decorate it and I'll wait on that for a bit. Knowing that the Grand Minions will be dropping by between now and Christmas and most of the ornaments being made of glass there's less brakeage that way. But then broken ornaments are to be expected, and none are vintage so it's not a great loss if and when they do get broken.

I also made the stuffing for Thanksgiving dinner yesterday, all I'll need to do is pop it in the oven for a few minutes today to warm up before we eat dinner when I get to my daughters house.

Well the Holidays are upon us like it or not. All the rushing around begins tomorrow. I'd like to take a moment here to tell you all to take it easy in the next few weeks. Take the time to relax and enjoy the season. Like the Grinch, we need to remember that Christmas doesn't come in a box tied up with pretty ribbons and bows. No, it's something more than that. It's being with family , friends, and loved ones sharing the good times and making memories like the ones I've been telling you about here.. Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Enjoy the day and be thankful for all that you have, and let me be the first to say... Merry Christmas and a happy New year to you as well.

I'm off to shower now....

Yeah, new owner as they bought the place two years ago now. I still think of them as new. No Vacation cancelled, just that the new owners don't give us Friday off like the old ones did. Giving us Christmas Eve off instead where as with the old owners we had to work a half a day on the Eve. That half day we used to get was moved to New Years Eve by the new guys, under the old we had to work a full day on New years Eve.

As for my vacation, I still get five days ( although under the old owners I had ten days) But as a New employee to them I had to start at square one again. Thing is I only took three days of the five I have, leaving two left to use over the Christmas holidays.. extending them so I have more days off. Sorry for any confusion. Have a good one!

Happy Thanksgiving to you! Since we are celebrating tomorrow, we are prepping food today and putting up our Christmas tree. Why not??

Have a great day, and be nice to one another.

Why not indeed? I don't hold to my fathers time line about decorating, just I've never put mine up till after the Thanksgiving holiday is all. Usually because I had the time then to do so. Have a good one Luv2!

I am envious of your dads decorations. I would love to be with a handy man who could create the first Christmas. OK I would love to be able to create the first Christmas. I need to take a wood class

My dad was a carpenter by trade. So he made building things look easy. Growing up on a farm he had a lot of practice doing it. That and a host of other things in the building trades. Have a good one pony!
