Why are you single?

This is a question I get asked a lot. Most of the time it comes from my own family demanding that I have a fiance. There's a weird expectation for me to be settled down and married with a on the way.

For some people that's perfectly fine, but that isn't the case for me. I like being able to live without feeling tied down to anything serious. There's a chance that I'll end up settling down someday, but right now I'm just enjoying the solo ride.

So the answer is "I choose to be single". Simple enough
You could shock family and admit "I want to get laid when I want and don't want to be bothered when I don't".

But family comments are usually insults with no one understanding what's really being said.

You are hardly alone with your sentiments. The *marriage rate* in USA has been steadily dropping for the past 60 years. In 2020, less than half of American adults your age are married. There are many excellent pros and cons to marriage. In the end, it is your choice and- to my mind- there is absolutely no need to justify your choice to anyone but yourself, and even that is *optional*!.

I have met plenty of people like you describe. I call them. "The suppose to people". They think there is a timeline you must follow. Most of my friends growing up were like that always on my back because I lived a fun lifestyle going out, dating who ever I wanted and never getting serious while they had a steady 40 hr a job, married, kids living the routine nights of date night, game night, ect..That was boring and still think it is boring at 48. A person needs to enjoy themselves. Live in the moment. That is the only thing people are suppose to do.
