Norman.......norman......ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh

i'm not really here much, life is claiming my attention in so many ways, i feel a bit like alice down the rabbit hole.

i did get to spend a week with my niece who flew up from Florida for some auntie time. She is nearly 14 and is at once a and a young lady...i watch her move through the world and am enchanted by her...

we did typical girl stuff - she needed dresses for her trip at the end of the year - the shop 'til you drop slogan was conceived for my niece....my feet still hurt a week later.

but the absolute best part was a wednesday night. she has never seen snow and as we stopped to get some chinese takeout, the first flakes began to fall. she stood in the middle of the parking lot and twirled....catching snow on her tongue. by the time we had finished eating, the snow was coming down apace.

as we walked through the park, the soft silence of a snow storm took over and she stood, arms outstretched, within the miracle.
it was perfect snowball snow and i couldn't resist. it hit her back with a resounding thud and she spun and tackled me, pushing snow down my coat. charlie jumped around us, not sure what the two crazy women were up to, but determined to get into the brawl if he could.

snow angels, snow ball fight, eating snow with maple syrup on it, and then le coup de grace...Norman. norman's nose was a left over biscuit. his arms, small brancehs felled the week before during the windiest days. irregular in shape and actually a bit shabby to be sure...but her first snowman...
my fingers were numb...my tush a frozen chunk....but we made Norman hair and glasses and buttons...

frozen red cheeks (uh huh, both kinds!) and feet so numb they hurt as we trudged home....i felt grand.

so now, i have a big old snowball sitting in my freezer. i hope it will last until august when she comes back for a visit.

You cannot conceive the many without the one.

oh we, I have tears in my eyes...what a wonderful visit!

and I love that you appreciated every second...so many people don't appreciate what's right in front of them...your neice is so lucky to have you for an auntie. I want to be that kind of auntie for my neices...the littlest will be one next week...ahe's a little angel...she stole my heart from the moment she was born...I suspect I'll never get it back.

tight hugs,
ce

Thank you for sharing this story. It sounds amazingly Norman, Norman Rockwell, that is. I was just up in the mountains playing in the snow with my kids and their friends, four 14 year-olds! No snowmen for us, though. Our time was spent schussing (and falling) down the mountain on our snowboards.

I love the snowball in the freezer - you are an awesome aunt, we.

I'm off to the baptism of my second grand-niece tomorrow - they grow up so fast.

I've found keeping my balls in a Zip-Loc, that's had most of the air sucked out of it, keeps my balls from whithering away.

This also works well at preventing long-term storage snowball sublimation in the freezer...

Been a while since they last let me out into polite society. Resurfacing, catching a breath, & catching up.

And while I got my Broad-Brimmed Pimping Hat on, could I cajole all of y'all to Comment on, Alone In A Cloud? It's probably the best thing that I've written!

Lately...
