chamber of horrors c'mon, we all have one. mine is in the small room that doubles as a library, passage room to the third floor. it's the closet that if you open the doors, all sorts of stuff tumbles out and you just sort of kick it back in and push the door back in place and promise yourself you'll get to it? well, i got to it. this is what i found that i didn't expect to find: a red bowling ball ( i don't bowl, no one in my house bowls and while it's very shiny and quite lovely it weighs a ton and i have no idea where the damn thing came from.) pieces to a long dead vacuum cleaner (all those little brushes and tubes) which i kept for reasons unknown. like they'd ever come in handy... not one but TWO brand new in the box never opened, you can have 'em for the low low price of 19.99 super sweepers. must have been a bad night if i was watching QVC. boots from long ago. long, long ago. really long ago. boots you wouldn't even wear to shovel snow in. really. 4.5 pairs. assorted boxes with nothing in them. not boxes you could use for packing or boxes you could use for wrapping gifts. just crumply old boxes. nice save.... a bag of gloves. one of each. WHAT WAS I THINKING?? did i really think the glove fairy would find the other one and put it in the bag when i wasn't looking? the bag was covered in dust bunnies for gawd's sake. the fairy would have choked to death. a set of candle toppers for those jar candles? they must have been a gift. they're in a box with gift paper on it. maybe from my sister....she's the only person i know that would buy them. would it be awful to offer them back to her? at least two bags of gross dust and small bags of wires and adapters for things i'm sure i once had and now don't or if i do don't know i do. on the hidden back shelf were two cinder blocks....very heavy. huh? and a jar of pickles...don't ask, i have no idea. there's a coat in there that is made of a material i can't even identify. i smell like i've been in moldy basement eating camphor balls. and there are four trash bags out front. it's clean. and i have space to hang guests' coats. and put my boots. all two pair. right next to the red bowling ball. i just couldn't........... You cannot conceive the many without the one. |

*laugh* This was pretty much my entire basement, until about a year ago. I had it recarpeted and I thought, "I'll be damned if I'm going to carry all of this crap out and then carry it back in again - I have to sort through it." I think it was more like ten giant trash bags full for me. One does find a few interesting things, though...

I just saw the CUTEST idea for recycling bowling balls. In your case, it's already red, so you're halfway there. They paint them to look like ladybugs and put them out in gardens. They were so whimsical that I already picked up a bowling ball at a thrift store to make one. Now the key is if I ever follow through on it.  Yes, I have several half started projects all over the place.

After this past year, vast swatches of my house resemble your closet as it was. And that's saying nothing of the attic. Once I'm human again, I need to have a Proper Clean. Bigtime.

Instead of cleaning out my "closet" (whole basement) I just moved to another state and left everything in the old house...I will get to it eventually. LOL I don't think I will find a red bowling ball but last time I cleaned the basement I found MB's backpack of ...um, tricks. Have backpack will tie C to the bed! Yea me! LOL
