Anyone got any crampons?

Look, I know that Rome wasn't built in a day. I am, these days, far more philosophical and patient than I ever have been, and I didn't expect my average middle-aged arse to make quick progress on here.

I find myself not really knowing what to do, though. I'm usually pretty savvy in these kind of places, but it's difficult to know how I can be anything but white noise.

I get viewed a bit, usually impossibly gorgeous American women, and I know that it is not remotely feasible that they have any interest in me. So, are most of them on the make in some way? Do they want me to message them and start a process, or are they just bored and idly browsing?

Then I get the odd flirt, but I responded to one yesterday (a potentially feasible person to meet with) only to be told that my picture was a turn off. These days, my ego isn't so precious that this bothers me, and in fact I welcome a bit of good old fashioned honesty, but I wondered why she brought herself to my attention.

I have sent out a few messages, but had no responses, and I guess that's fairly typical. It's difficult to know how many messages women get here, but I reckon it's enough to be able to ignore the majority of them. When I first came to a site lik ethis, I was affronted if I didn't get a response, but I know that this is such a cliche for a fella to get all arsey because his ego has had a bashing.

If anyone has any advice, please feel free to educate me!
