Just Wondering

There was a free service for people, like many of us, that has vanished. It vanished because of, in my opinion, government overreach. It wasn't the only one out there, but it was the most useful for hooking up with like minded individuals. Yes, I am talking about the Craig's List Personls. And yes, I know it was fraught with perils of harm, frauds, flakes, fakes, fantasizers, voyeurs, lurkers, and picture collectors. But so is every sexually oriented social media platform and "dating" site with a hefty membership fee. So why the different rules for essentially the same purpose?

I miss Craig's List Personals. For m, it was a very effective platform and with caution one could make good NSA hookups. It worked far better than any of the paid sites. If something needed to be done to reduce the harmful and dangerous activities that occurred, the perpetrators of the harm should have been pursued rather than the media used to perpetrate their crime. Of course, Craig's List also could have done far more to control the posters of Personals. A simple process of requiring legal identification documents to gain access to the Personas would have done the trick and could have included a one-time fee for the process. That information could have then been kept on a secured server location with a guarantee of privacy unless a poster violated the law via the use of the service. Instead, the fear of legal sanctions caused them to just shut it down. Shortsightedness on the part of all parties involved.

Now, I wish I could find an acceptable replacement. I haven't found any trustworthy sites yet but I keep hoping. If you are reading this and know of any site like this, be kind enough to me and tell me who they ate and where they may be found.

Namaste
