From a self-serving point of view, I'm kind of disappointed by today's news of Prince and Warner Brothers' settlement returning ownership of his Rights to the music recorded on that label some time ago.
The dispute had caused him to sever his relationship with Warner and, also, change his name to that symbol during the nineties.
My disappointment stems from the fact that Prince had threatened to re-record all of his Warner Bros., recordings, and I had been kind of looking forward to hearing alternate takes of his previous recordings.
I've heard him do some great stuff on his live performances that are so different from the originals, so I know it would have been fun.
Anyway, with the new deal there will be some new stuff, and, some new old stuff coming out subsequently. I already have a CD published without his blessing from back when this dispute originally kicked off. It's called "The Vault... Old Friends $ Sale", and whenever friends hear this they're caught by surprise.
Not only is it great but, they've never heard most, if not all, the songs before!

If the World Was Crazy

If the world was crazy, you know what I'd eat? a big slice of soup and a whole quart of meat, a lemonade sandwich, and then I might try some roasted ice cream or a bicycle pie, a nice notebook salad, an underwear roast, an omelet of hats and some crisp cardboard toast, a thick malted milk made from pencils and daisies, and that's what I'd eat if the world was crazy.
If the world was crazy, you know what I'd wear? a chocolate suit and a tie of eclair, some marshmallow earmuffs, some licorice shoes, and I'd read a paper of peppermint news. I'd call the boys "Suzy" and I'd call the girls "Harry," I'd talk through my ears, and I always would carry a paper umbrella for when it grew hazy to keep in the rain, if the world was crazy.
If the world was crazy, you know what I'd do? I'd walk on the ocean and swim in my shoe, I'd fly through the ground and I'd skip through the air, I'd run down the bathtub and bathe on the stair. When I met somebody I'd say "G'bye, Joe," And when I was leaving--then I'd say "Hello." And the greatest of men would be silly and lazy, so I would be king...if the world was crazy.

ROGER BOBO GIVES RECITAL ON TUBA Headline in the Times
Eskimos in Manitoba, barracuda off Aruba, cock an ear when Roger Bobo starts to solo on the tuba.
Men of every station - Pooh-Bah, Nabob, bozo, toff, and hobo - cry in unison, "Indubi- Tably, there is simply nobo-

When I Do Count The Clock...

SONNET #12 When I do count the clock that tells the time And see the brave day sunk in hideous night, When I behold the violet past prime And sable curls all silvered o'er with white,
When lofty trees I see barren of leaves, Which erst from heat did canopy the herd, And summer's green all girded up in sheaves Borne on the bier with white and bristly beard;
Then of thy beauty do I question make That thou among the wastes of time must go, Since sweets and beauties do themselves forsake And die as fast as they see others grow;
And nothing 'gainst Time's scythe can make defense Save breed, to brave him when he takes thee hence.

Roses and White

Any thought I might have had of winter's demise might have been a bit premature.
I woke up with the taste of snow on my lip yesterday.
I had spent Sunday shopping for roses and soil, and doing some planting , now it might have all been in vain. Co-workers who live in this area laughed when I told them how I came out to find my rose plant covered in white yesterday morning.
Oh well, fingers crossed!

There are folks who will tell you that they don't like poetry, and that they wouldn't listen to poetry. Hey, I wouldn't read poetry unless it had a rhythm that was favorable to my ear, so I understand.
What a lot of folks don't realize is that they're wrong about how they think they feel about it.
See, every song that you listen to is just poetry in a different form. It's called "lyrical poetry" which is how they did it back in the day before they learned how to put it to disc.
You had a story to tell, but how do you keep the audiences attention (Hey, the resistance to poetry has been going on for centuries ). You did it by putting your story to music (there really weren't many instruments at the time but it did the job). Multiple stories were handed down from generation to generation through poetry in lyrical form.
Listen to Boston's "Rock and Roll Band", Lynyrd Skynyrd's "That Smell", or Golden Earring's "Twilight Zone" (to mention a few) to see what I mean... (see below).

Somewhere in a lonely hotel room There's a guy starting to realize That he's eternal fate has turn it's back on him It's two A.M.
It's two A.M. the fear has gone I'm sitting here waitin', the gun still warm Maybe my connection is tired of takin' chances
Yeah, there's a storm on the loose, sirens in my head Wrapped up in silence all circuits are dead Cannot decode, my whole life spins into a frenzy
Help, I'm steppin' into the twilight zone This is a madhouse, feels like being home My beacon's been moved under moon and star Where am I to go now that I've gone too far?
Help, I'm steppin' into the twilight zone Place is a madhouse, feels like being cloned My beacon's been moved under moon and star Where am I to go now that I've gone too far?
Soon you will come to know when the bullet hits the bone Soon you will come to know when the bullet hits the bone.
I'm falling down the spiral destination unknown Double crossed messenger all alone Can't get no connection, can't get through Where are you?
Well the night weighs heavy on his guilty mind This far from the borderline When the hitman comes He knows damn well he has been cheated
And he says, "Help, I'm steppin' into the twilight zone Place is a madhouse, feels like being cloned My beacon's been moved under moon and star Where am I to go now that I've gone too far?"
Soon you will come to know When the bullet hits the bone Soon you will come to know When the bullet hits the bone

Seven Days A Week...

Am I just busier, or is this "Poem-A-Day" taking it's toll on me?
There was a time when I posted something seven days per week, and it seemed easy. Now I just barely get my post in on time, and usually it's rushed. I keep trying to remember what it was like back then.
Oh, well. Maybe it's because I have more people whose page I need to comment on (I sometimes always have an opinion).
Plus, there are a few comments I do need to respond to.
Anyway, the month is almost over, and I can shelve this until next year (see if I'm brave enough to try it again ).

When Daddy Fell Into The Pond

Everyone grumbled, the sky was grey, we had nothing to do and nothing to say. We were nearing the end of a dismal day, and then there seemed to be nothing beyond, Then daddy fell into the pond!
And everyone's face grew merry and bright, and Timothy danced for sheer delight. "Give me the camera, quick, oh quick! He's crawling out of the duckweed!" Click!
Then the gardener suddenly slapped his knee, and doubled up, shaking silently, and the ducks all quacked as if they were daft, and it sounded as if the old drake laughed. Oh, there wasn't a thing that didn't respond when daddy fell into the pond!

Mother returned from 2 days away Her little boy greeted her by saying, "Mummy, guess what! Yesterday! I was in your wardrobe, playing Daddy came in with the lady next door And their clothes started to drop And they lay undressed on the bed And then daddy climbed on top ..."
Mother held up her hand. "Not another word. That story's bad, Exactly what you've just told me, I want you to tell to Dad." As Dad walked into the house, His wife said, "I'm off. I'm packed already, see? " "But why--" asked the startled father. "Sonny. Tell him what you told me."
"Well," Sonny said, "I was playing in your wardrobe And daddy came in with the lady next door And they got undressed And all their clothes were on the floor. And they got up on the bed And then they did that thing That you did with Uncle John When daddy was away, last Spring."

Not A Panty Raid

I’ve always loved good martial arts movie. I wasn’t the kind of snob who treated them the way I see reality TV. Last year I watched a movie called “The Raid: Redemption” on DVD and immediately regretted that I never saw it in a movie theater. So when I read that the sequel was done and had been shown at Sundance I decided I had to see it as soon as it opened.
A brutal, violent, exciting movie; 2 ½ hours of mayhem.
Like “The Raid: Redemption”, and “The Man From Nowhere”, “The Raid 2” had such a great anti-climatic fight scene (I say that because the final fight scene was over in the blink of an eye), that I actually wanted to rewind and do it again; at least, that’s what I would have done if I was at home instead of the movie theater.

I seem to be batting 100 with my choice of movies this year (fingers crossed) especially in Foreign Films.
I watch movies the same as I read my books or my comics, strictly escapism. So, when I go to the movies I’m looking for excitement, adventure, and laughs; a little romance is not a bad addition.
So far I’ve seen Star Trek: Into The Darkness (which absolutely blew me away), Thor: The Dark World (just to show you that I mix it up some), The Wolverine; The Hunger Games: Catching Fire; Fast Six; Captain America: The Winter Soldier; The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey; and The Raid 2.
Of course, I also saw The Lone Ranger; Elysium; and 2 Guns, which weren’t up to the same standard as the previously named ones; so I guess 100 is a bit of an overstatement.
Still, it’s better than I did last year.
