What’s In A Name? For U.K. Swingers’ Club Isis Quest, Filthy Lucre

Ever search online for a popular term – Kardashian, NASCAR, or NFL, say – and wind up seeing entirely unrelated results? Online marketers occasionally bid on popular words from search companies such as G—gl- or B-ng in order to attract new customers to their offerings.

Swingers’ club Isis Quest of Leeds, England is reaping the benefits of its name without spending a shilling on search marketing. Web surfers seeking information on terror organization Isis are being exposed – quite literally – to the play sex world, according to “Holy phwoar: Swingers' club is doing a bomb over islamist [sic] ‘links’,” an article on the U.K.’s Daily Star site.

The club has reported increased revenue during the last year or so, and some visitors claim they came across it while searching for information on the war in the Middle East, according to the Daily Star.

“Loads of people have said they happened across it when they were reading up on the war in the Middle East and one of the owners, Dave, said the same thing,” the Daily Star continued.

But why name a swingers’ club Isis Quest at all? According to the Daily Star, “The club – named after the Egyptian goddess of magic and life – tells punters: ‘Isis Quest is the original premier club in Leeds for liberated adults.’”

(Side note: C’mon, Daily Star… punters? An English term which may mean customers, but often has the connotation of “Johns” in the sense? Inherent in swinging ethics is the right to say no. Not cricket, boys….)

Isis Quest itself seeks to reaffirm this attitude: According to the Daily Star, the club “make[s] it our business to provide you with an evening of total relaxation and enjoyment in a smooth hassle-free environment so you can enjoy the swinging lifestyle in comfort and at your own pace.

“Once you enter you can feel free to dance, socialise and cavort with other couples or singles that enjoy the same liberated adult night out that you yourself have come to enjoy.”

“Free” of course, has a price attached to it: Couples pay 20 pounds (about $31 U.S. or $39 Canadian dollars) to attend, while single men pay 25 pounds ($39 U.S. or $49 Canadian) to walk through the doors.

My reaction, which is echoed by one of the club owners in the Daily Sun piece: Isn’t this just the sort of thing Wahhabism – the orthodox strain of Islam practiced by the Saudi leaders of Al-Qaeda – and other puritanical orthodoxies are trying to eliminate? Go, Isis Quest, go!

LOL that we call those islamic extremists by the name of an Egyptian goddess.
And "free" is relative, now isn't it?

Shh... don't tell 'em about the goddess part... we're hoping to make the big reveal a crucial part of our psy-war strategy!

ISIS flags at gay pride rallies, and now this! Those wild and crazy Islamic Fundamentalists! Who the hell needs seventy two virgins? Those guys must be wising up! They're a step ahead of our own fundamentalist wackos. Our nutcases are stuck on Congressional pages and random airport pickups. I can see it coming: An endorsement contract along the lines of Good Housekeeping..."Stamped with the New Caliphate Seal of Approval!" Puts the WahHa back in Wahhabism!

Clearly, the swinging community is doing its part to demoralize the terrorists. I wonder if it can get some federal funds for its efforts?

Hell, aren't parts of the USA PATRIOT Act up for review? Folks, your local swing club might be the last bastion of freedom... support it today!

Oh, dear... I fear the day when the entertainment value of blogging is outstripped by the actual education value... that can't be good...

The west war on stupidity took it's toll of lives during the enlightenment period and after. The east will have to wage the same war against stupidity and it is not going to be blood free just like in the west.
There's a "Make Love, Not War" comment dancing in the back of my head, but it's not fully formed yet.

Sadly, you're probably right about bloodshed and enlightenment. Certainly historically, and likely for the future.

Would be nice just to skip ahead in that book...

That's about what it cost for a single to go to a party at Bob and Ted and Carol and Alice in Phoenix about 25 years ago. Got laid there a few times. It was a safe place for a lady and her husband when she wanted to pull a train. We all loved her. The congeniality in line was amazing. There would be two of us in with her at a time. And he was the MC in the room.

A lot of cost factors are determined by population, but then again Leeds' population clocks in at around 750,000.

So perhaps it's that folks are more bargain-conscious in the Yorkshire region of England.

I wonder which side of the street they swing on?

Great name for a swingers' club - Isis Quest. Does the name imply that swingers' club is an "underworld"? Just curious...

That particular one, perhaps... but I believe there are those named for Heaven and other higher principalities...

Some of that stuff is very interesting when you think about it? But maybe not in the right frame of context to the public though?
Depends on what you mean.... here on this blog, anything that has to do with swinging in the media (unless it's a virtual symposium post) goes... And "Isis" was a goddess long before it was a heiroglyph superimposed by the west on terror...

I wasn't able to determine how long the club has been around... but if it was before the terrorist Isis, you can imagine that it didn't want to go through the expense of reprinting all those matchbooks!

The club has done some great marketing. It's about time the Isis word was reclaimed!

Them(isis) dudes need to hit a spot like that so they wont worry about blowing up shit and killing people. This makes me think when I was hustlin' drugs I had quite a few Muslim kats that wanted drugs and girls and I had'em both but then I'd see them with their wives out n about being the total dickheads they were to them.

Please, just call me diggy.

Heh... took me a moment when I first read "hit" to realize you didn't mean "blow up," but rather were suggesting they go and enjoy themselves...

Here's the thing: There's no guarantee of anything at a swing club. What would happen if they were rebuffed? If they're dickheads outside a club, chances are they'd be dickheads inside... and dickheads don't get to play-play.

Funny comment, and interesting insight... good to see you again!

I hope for the day when the political scandal breaks that an ISIS leader actually knew of the club, had been there and decided it would be funny to name his group of whack jobs after it..
