Playing with the web cam again...
Sometimes it works... sometimes not so well. I don't understand what's so difficult about the application. Seems simple enough.

Read on someone's blog about malware from the site on their computer. And about unauthorized charges to credit cards. It's not surprising since this site really doesn't have a secure login. And they propagate member profiles to other websites. Which probably includes id, password, credit card info. Not a good practice.

But site still sucks. Even worse now. Have to enter ID & PW every 3 minutes.

Haven't been on here much the last few months. Had a short contract job, but now a new full time job. Seems like it will be interesting enough.

If this site continues to perform this poorly, I'll be on here very rarely. I wonder if the paying members are having similar experiences. Even so, it doesn't provide any reason to upgrade... paying for poor service sucks even more.

Read an article about women dying because abortion is now banned in Nicaragua. Even if the life of the mother is at risk, abortion cannot be performed. Let's see... lose one to save one. Nah... let's lose both. Idiots. This is what happens when you mix religion and politics... bad laws get passed. You may think that this can only happen in third world nations, but look around. Our political landscape has conservative religious "landmarks" all over the place. The birthplace of "freedom of religion" is degenerating to a nation of christians. It may have been always the case, but not according to the Constitution. "So what... now the laws are catching up to society. How does this change anything?" Have you forgotten "intelligent design" already? And how there is limited/no federal funding for stem cell research? I had caught a christian tv "science" show attempting to debunk the science of geology. I had a good laugh, but you have to wonder about the people that believe that crap. Scientific leadership is not achieved by following church doctrines. How long did it take for the church to acknowledge the earth is not the center of the solar system? And is not flat?
Enough ranting for tonight. I have more important work to do.

Had the unfortunate opportunity to observe a strange dude in the gym the other day. The only reason he stuck out was that he was "super-setting" between 2 identical machines... two smith presses. One was rigged for flat bench, and the other for incline press. What MORON would tie up two pieces of the same equipment. Between sets, he would walk around the gym, arms held away from his body like somebody 3 times his body mass might do if they had developed large lats. It was kinda comical... and sad. Reminded me of a peacock (well, he may have problems there too). What's equally sad (for him) is that I, as well as many others in the gym, can curl more than this guy was pressing. After his "massive" chest workout, I noticed him on the treadmill. He jogs the same way he walks! Arms held 45 degress away from his torso, head boppin' to the ipod-like device on his arm, and sporting a headband. It was like watching a train wreck. You have to look... but once you did you can only cringe and look away.

I don't go looking for these kind of people. There weren't many folks in the gym that day and this dude stuck out like a dandelion on a fairway. Anyways, many hours later, as my subconscious attempted to rationalize the many anomalies I've encountered, it comes up with the scenario that this dude is "large in his own mind". Don't get me wrong... I wasn't stewing on this for hours on end... I forgot about him by the time I left the gym. I must have filed him in the "what's wrong with this picture" category in the back of my head to let my subconscious figure it out. I use this method to solve problems for work quite often. There's still a bunch of unanswered questions filed back there... like "where are the magnets from my old cube".

Have to renew my driver's license.... and do I check the organ donor box? I don't mind donating blood... but the organ donor thing has always creeped me out. You can see why it's a good thing to do, but they start cutting things out while the "body is still warm". Ick! Another reason why I never went to med school.

I don't recall if I posted this before.... but I'll post this since someone I met had a need for it. The program is called "dban" and you can download it for free off the internet. It is used to "wipe" your computer's hard disk of any personal data or (in his case) illegally obtained software. I use it before giving away old computers. If it does what it says it does... it should securely wipe the hard disk such that it would take $$million+ equipment to recover any data. The alternatives are 1) very strong electro-magnet, 2) physical destruction of the platters (acid, heat).

They must be changing stuff here again. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. And you can pop up several at a time again. Do these people know how to test before deploying any changes?

Haven't met her yet, but she must be in her 20's cuz I hear music starting at a little before 7am. It was pretty loud last night around 9pm. Too much bass. I feel sorry for the older guy below her. He leaves for work at 4:30 in the morning, so I know he goes to bed early.

Flippin' through the channels and caught a bit of the Fox TV show Kitchen Nightmares. Some pretty gross stuff. It's a good thing I'm content with my own cooking because seeing stuff like that makes me want to avoid eating out.

oil market

Price of oil is over $92 a barrel. It may break $100 this winter. Part of that has to be the weak US dollar, but still, I'm expecting gas prices to jump pretty soon. We were paying $3 a gallon a few summers ago when the price per barrel was below $90, so we may see over $3 at the pump shortly.

On the plus side, a weak US dollar helps US businesses export goods to other countries. I've already read a couple of articles stating that some governments are requesting the US boost the value of the dollar to protect their local businesses from US imports.

And one person at the UN issued a report of how biofuels are increasing the cost of food, by taking land used for food crops and converting them for fuel crops. I have to agree with him on this point. There is no way we can "grow" enough to supply the US energy demands with biofuels. The best chance is with solar. The reason I say that is purely on the math. Biofuels is currently a "solar" energy... plants (photosynthesis) and then conversion to ethanol. The efficiency of energy conversion from all inputs in biofuels (farm equipment, fertilizers, insecticides, running the ethanol plants, transporting the crops) currently produces less energy than the energy used in the production process. Whereas solar, once you make the panels, is a continuous net gain. And here's the part that really pisses me off... our US govt is pushing biofuels at the same time it cuts funding for solar energy research. Current solar panels I think are around 10% efficient and maybe up to %20 for the newer tech. If you could get up around 80% conversion efficiency with cost effective materials and production process, we'd be completely "green" in short order.

As for storage of solar energy... convert it to liquid hydrogen. It may not be as efficient as monster batteries, but it is cheaper to do. And if you consider that the gas engine in your car is less than 25% efficient and solar is "free", we'd still be ahead. I guess this also brings up the fact that no one has improved the gasoline engine in over what?.... 100 years?

If you get a phone call from an "unknown ID/number" on your cell phone, would you answer it. Probably not... but after the 2nd or 3rd time, I picked up and it was the Blood Center asking for me to donate again. They have my email.... just email the reminder.

Old dude at the gym ripped a nasty, rancid one. Ass gas is not welcome in the gym. Ever try lifting while holding your breath?

Still freakin' cold in the office. More folks bringing in small space heaters and wearing jackets in the office.

Apparently not eating enough. Put on 2 pounds last weekend traveling about... and now they are gone.
